    Default 'Paranormal Activity'

I just got back from this one. Whew... my heart is still racing. I'm going to admit, I might leave a light or two on before going to bed tonight.

Has anyone else seen it/plan on seeing it? Do you think the 'Blair Witch' camera style added or subtracted from the experience?

Got back from watching it. For a low budget film it was pretty scary, not OH SNAP kind of scary, but enough to make you go, can this happen to me when i'm sleeping? I mean, most horror movies these days rely on over-gore and generic pop up moments where someone dies a gruesome death. This movie it scares you more by plot and suspense rather then having people die in gory gruesome manners. I admit the bf is what kept this movie from becoming kind of boring, cause he provided the comedy relief though not overdoing it, it was enough to make you smile or laugh abit in an already tense situation.

I give the movie a 7-8/10, the ending was quite stirring though it was expected, but pretty damn scary.

I cant believe my bedroom is connected to the attic i'm *****

Shrug, i had a couple people leaving the theatre, either it was that bad or it scared some people. I admit it wasn't scary enough to crap your pants, but hey, it was scary enough.

I'm not really a scary movie person, but with what people have been saying I kinda want to see it now .

I didn't think it was scary, only certain things popping up did. But admittedly when I got home I rushed to turn the lights on, whereas I usually don't mind such things, but it wasn't as bad as when I watched the Sixth Sense when I was little and could hardly come out from under my blanket at night. I thought it was a really good movie though, especially for an 11,000 dollar budget!

    You guys are pussies.

The only scary part in the entire movie was the ending and maybe when she was pulled off her bed.

The powder part was just plain retarded.

Just got back from it...honestly...this movie's scare factor is WAYYY over-hyped...and I think due to the fact that it seems that nothing but 13 and 14 year old kids somehow get into the theaters to see it and their little minds can't handle a few slamming doors and loud noises (seriously, the theater was filled with nothing but 14 year olds and their friends who screamed and yelled at every little boo).

However, for a low budget movie it certainly achieved a higher level of "scary" than most Hollywood blockbusters with special effects, known actors, and an ass-load of gore.

There were a few legitimate scares in there...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - The part where Katie's dragged out of the room
    - The part where the demon enters the room, you see it's shadow lean over, and it whispers something as she violently comes awake
    - And the theatrical ending

What I didn't like was how the film followed the same routine EVERY time...filming during the day, they talk about the haunting, do some mundane stuff, go to sleep, something happens, rinse repeat.

I also didn't like how there really wasn't any 2nd hand scares...they were all direct. The movie would've been a bit creepier if maybe something would move in the background while other stuff was going on, or maybe you see something for a half a second, etc etc.

Lastly, for those who have seen both which ending do you prefer?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - The theatrical ending where Katie wakes up, goes down stairs, screams, Micha runs down, there's a struggle - silence, then footsteps back up the stares...and BOOM Micha body comes flying out of the dark into the camera. Then Katie leans over him and appears to smell him, then smiles at the camera before suddenly becoming demon-like before the film cuts out
    - Or the original 2007 ending which starts the same but only has Katie come back upstairs, sit down and rock back and forth for 12 hours, you hear her friend call the house, then that night the friend comes by and finds Micha's body, calls the police, they come, she snaps out of it, runs at them looking for Micha and is in turn shot down

Honestly, I preferd the new ending...the 2007 ending was a little drawn out, a little boring, and...really, it was actually terribly acted which is surprising given the fact that most of the rest of the movie feels pretty real in its acting.

Also, has anyone seen the 3rd ending which was only publically viewed once? That one sounds pretty cool
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Supposedly what happens start just like all the others only Katie slowly comes back up the stairs, blood soaked with knife in hand, approaches the camera, and slits her own throat

I couldn't have put it better myself. I mean, for 8 bucks, it was ok cheap thrills, but horror factor was definitely over played. So better than most "horror" movies out there, but the hype was meh.

If it's making good money, which it seems to be doing, you can bet that it'll be picked up overseas as well.

It was a terrible movie should be rated PG. Now Nightmare on Elm Street is something I can watch.

I wasted $9 on this garbage but I also watched 3 other movies so I got my money's worth.

I think I missed that part. When did it happen?

Basically here's the gist - Katie and her boyfriend Micha live together and start to experience some weird stuff...they determine that they must be hauntings (stuff moves, lights come on and off, they hear floorboards creek, etc). Supposedly, Katie has been experiencing these sorts of things all her life off and on - claiming at one point to have seen a shadowy entity at the foot of her bed when she was 8.

Finally, when the movie starts, Micha decides to buy a video camera and ultra sensitive audio recording devices to document their lives day and night over a series of something like 21 days.

During the day the audience gets a personal look into the lives of the couple while at night, camera being set up in the bedroom, these small hauntings are captured on film.

At first these hauntings are relatively harmless things: stuff moves, footsteps can be heard, etc. But as the film progresses they become more violent. It's determined that the entity must be a demon, thus as it feeds off more and more negative energy within the house it becomes stronger and more violent - getting progressively more so as the film goes on up to the end when...well I won't spoil the ending.

That's pretty much as good as a spiler free summary as I can write - hope that's what you're looking for
