    Default DDS mod files - what to do with them?

    Ok, I have a problem with using mods (unit skins) that are in DDS format. WHAT am I supposed to do with them? No skins that I have downloaded so far which are in DDS format contain a readme - which, as far as I am conserned, is a mistake; not everyone knows what to do - leaving me no idea of what to do with them. I have tried searching answers via search and google - no luck.
