Yeah, Arkhipov is a different matter, but it wasn't only the political officer who was in favour of launching the torpedo (and the crew thought it was war since US ships were dropping depth charges).

The real man who stopped the end of the world was Khrushchev, since he backed down in the Cuban missile crisis.

There was also, in the 90's, a missile which was heading for Russia, and again it raised concerns of nuclear war, and one man held off on pressing the button. Turns out it was a Scandanavian scientific test(iirc), and Russia HAD been informed but somehow seemed to have forgotten all about it and we almost got nuked cuz of it.
