Default Updating from 2.0 to 2.02 questions

I'm playing BC 2.02 Kingdoms Edition, however, I found out today that it's not actually 2.02 but 2.0. I downloaded the 2.02 patch but before updating I have some questions:

    1. I have 3 campaigns in progress. After updating to 2.02, will I be able to continue these campaigns or will the game simply crash/not work?

    2. After installing BC, I also installed some additional mods that are fully compatible with BC. Will I have to get rid of these mods before patching BC to 2.02, or can I just run the 2.02 exe without uninstalling those other mods?

    3. If lets say I decide to completely reinstall BC, what would be the best way to uninstall it? Should I run the uninstaller that comes with it or should I simply delete the whole BC folder from the mods directory of MTWII?

    1. Nope.

    2. Try to patch BC to 2.02 without uninstalling the mods (it would be difficult). In case of problems write here and we will try to solve it.

    3. Run the uninstaller first. And then delete remaining old files.

I think I may be having a problem of sorts with my game being up to date. I reinstalled the BC Kingdoms Edition, then used the patch to update it to 2.02. Then I looked in the EDB file to see if the Toassin Mamluks (who are called Ayyubid Mamluk Cavalry Archer in EDB) are mentioned in it and they are not. I was told that they should be in there but in my EDB they are not, even after I updated the game. When I had BC 2.0, they were in the EDU but not in the EDB, and now after updating the game, they're still not in the EDB. I'm a bit worried that my game hasn't been updated properly, although there were no problems during installation of the mod or the update patch.

Can someone please check their EDB file to see if the Ayyubid Mamluk Cavalry Archer is mentioned anywhere in it?

I've already told you that it's there. And everyone who has BC 2.02 will tell you the same. Did you install BC 2.02 patch properly? It should be installed into your main M2TW folder.

Yes wudang, I do remember what you have told me and I have installed the 2.02 patch according to the instructions in the sticky for it. The patch is an automatic installer (*.exe file). In fact, I've tried reinstalling BC and the patch twice already and both times I've checked the EDB file and there was absolutely no mention of the Ayyubid Mamluk Cavalry Archers anywhere in it. That is why I'm concerned.

Ok, let's keep the issue in here, in the Tech forum.
I've posted in other thread that you should have proper EDB - with the unit in it - installed. I can check BC 2.02 EDB to the end of time and Toassins will be there. My only conclusion is that you haven't installed BC 2.02 properly. Otherwise you would have the unit in the EDB.

EDIT: Do you have Vista? And check the date and the size of your EDB and post it here, please.

Ok we will keep in here.

    Here's my installation process.

    1. Install MTWII Kingdoms Gold Edition
    2. Install 1.05 patch
    3. Install BC Kingdoms Edition
    4. Install BC 2.02 patch

Those are the steps I followed. Since the 2.02 patch is an auto installer, there's not much I can do except specify to which directory it is installed to, and the default directory is the correct one, the main MTWII folder.

I have checked the EDU, the Toassin unit is in there, but it is not in the EDB (export_descr_building.txt)

No, I'm on XP, but if it helps the EDB is 878kb and the date is 7/4/09. Regarding the date, I actually checked it before updating to 2.02, and then checked it again, it always stayed the same.

Um, that means that you've wrong patch installed. You've patched BC to 2.01 not 2.02. In 2.01 there are no Toassins in the EDB, just like in 2.0. I think we're are heading to the shore now.

Ok, in that case the link from which I downloaded the patch is wrong, plus when I downloaded the patch, the actual file is called bcpatch202, so that is wrong as well. I got the link for the patch from this sticky http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=274922 . The link is at the top of the second post. Also, when I run the patch, it does say that it's 2.02

Yes, it does say it's 2.02, because it is 2.02. I've checked the link - the patch is proper. BC 2.02 EDB should have ~1 260 KB and the date 17/7/09 not 4/7/09.
Now, for some reason it don't want to install over your BC 2.01 (I suppose you have that version, EDB is certainly 2.01).
Next question is: do you have 'broken_crescent' folder inside your M2TW folder?
If no, then you have to install the patch in following way:
    1. Create a folder on your desktop.
    2. Install BC 2.02 patch there.
    3. Open the folder and 'broken_crescent' folder.
    4. Open your M2TW folder and the folder you have BC installed in.
    5. Move the 'data' folder form you desktop installation of BC 2.02 inside main BC installation.
    6. Overwrite the files.

It could be also that BC 2.02 installer don't recognize the path properly, so you have 2.02 installed indeed, but somewhere else on your partition...

EDIT: Ok, I've checked the BC Kingdoms Edition and it seems that it has BC 2.01 installed by default. It means that BC 2.02 files do not go into your installation folder but obviously somewhere else...

EDIT 2: I'm an idiot. The path for BC KINGDOMS is different, since it is in mods folder!!!

Well, I have a 'broken_crescent_kingdoms' folder inside my M2TW folder. The name is different because I used the BC Kingdoms Edition and not the regular BC. Here's the exact path where this folder is located C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\broken_crescent_kingdoms

The installer for the patch though specifies this path to install to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War . Is this right?

Would re-naming the folder to just 'broken_crescent' and then installing the patch work?

Nope. You have to change the path into: 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\broken_crescent_kingdoms'. That's the proper path for BC 2.02, for it is the place where you've installed the mod, and you want to update it, not to install it anywhere on your disk. I'm sorry for giving you wrong information on installation path, I've forgotten somehow (but how?! ) that we're talking about BC Kingdoms... If you have the mod in C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\broken_crescent_kingdoms then run the installer and give it that path. Now it should work. Again, sorry.

i don't know what kind of path checking the installer does, but by doing this my guess is you'll end up having a "broken_crescent" folder with the patch contents within your "broken_crescent_kingdoms" folder. imho the easiest way to patch the kingdoms version to 2.02 is to run the patcher in some empty temporary folder and then copy the contents to the "broken_crescent_kingdoms" folder manually. and and don't forget to delete your map.rwm.
    Waiting for:

Yes, you're absolutely right. Installer choses M2TW main folder, so indeed it will create 'broken_crescent' inside 'broken_crescent_kingdoms' and the game still won't be patched. I didn't think about this, what an oversight. In that case it will be best if DirtyACE just install the patch manually. Thanks for your correction, Spider!

No problem wudang. I really do appreciate all your help and patience since I was confused as to why this was not working. I think part of the fault is the actual instructions given in the sticky as they say to install into C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War and not a more specified path.

Anyway, I will try to install again tomorrow since it's getting pretty late here, and will post if it worked or not.

Btw, saw you're from Poland. We're neighbors in a way as I'm from Ukraine, but live in US now

It is that way, because almost everyone thinks that BC Kingdoms Edition is BC 2.02, when actually it is 2.01. That's why there are no instructions for updating it.

Nice to know that! I'm thinking about visiting Crimea next year.

Never been to Crimea myself but have been told the weather is quite pleasant usually. Plus they make some very good dessert wine there.

Yes, I've heard that too. Plus: there are many ancient places to visit.
