Icon8 what the heck is patch2.pack??

man.... i tried editing patch.pack.... but it doesn't work.
i deleted platoon fire from patch.pack but the units are still doing platoon fire in the custom battles.
it worked just fine before this patch.
i think the problem is the existence of patch2.pack
so i deleted it, then the game won't start.....

what do i have to do?? i want to edit the game!!!!

    Default patch.pack and patch2.pack

I had made a series of changes to my patch.pack. Essentially I had undone all of Lusted's 1.4 naval changes. With 1.5 I was expecting to have the patch.pack replaced with a new one, which I was prepared to remake to my liking. However, I noticed that all my changes were still there. "Whadda ya know?" said I.

But when I went to play, my changes were not in effect and I was horrified and dismayed to see brigs and sloops with longer range than SoL's, laser-guided chainshot and all that silly 'Naval Imbalance, Just For Fun' stuff. Then I noticed a new file, patch2.pack. What the...?

Has anyone figured the workings of this patch2 file? Does it override patch.pack? Is patch.pack still valid at all? I tried to edit it with DB editor, but when you point it to patch2.pack it opens the old patch.pack instead. And good old reliable PFM 1.11b can't identify the headers. (PFM 1.12 won't open db and refers you to DBE).

I think they want us to be unable to edit out their silly naval game. They want to rub it in and force it up our nose.

Not quite, but keep looking, you'll find it soon enough.

    Main.pack is overridden by Patch.pack.

    Patch.pack is overridden by Patch2.pack.

What you need to do is open the patch.pack with PackFileManager and extract the tables that have your naval changes.

You don't even need to edit the tables or even see the data. Just tell PackFileManager to continue through the DBEditor message and right-click the table to extract it.

Then use PackFileManager to create a new pack and import the tables you extracted from the Patch.pack.

Set this pack to a mod type and save it in your data folder.

Use ModManager or edit your user script and add in your new mod.

You should get your naval changes once you start the game with this mod loaded.

im having the same problems. I went into patch.pack and changed unit sizes for most units. I go into the game and none of my changes are represented. I go back into patch.pack with dbeditor and all my changes are there??

will doing what the post above suggests work for me aswell? If so can someone give me more idiot proof instructions??

Yes, what I said above should work for you as well.

There are great tutorials in the Mod Workshop and they'll help you get a better understanding.

The steps I mentioned are very easy though and once you have the tools and are a little more familiar with the interface you should have no trouble.

If you have questions on any of the steps, let me know!

Perhaps a mod could move this to the modding forum somewhere? Thanks in advance!

hey guys i found out the solution~
get a new version of dbeditor.
    and just edit patch2.pack itself
    patch.pack means nothing now
patch2.pack is what u need to edit

I'd like to point out that this is NOT completely correct.

There are new tables in the patch2.pack that override tables in the patch.pack but not ALL the tables from patch.pack or main.pack are in the patch2.pack.

On a side-note: you should never edit your patch packs. If you create a small mod pack with your changes in it you won't have to worry about overwriting vanilla files, losing your changes in updates or verifications, or causing conflicts that will crash your game without vanilla files being replaced over your changes.

If anyone has any questions on how to make a small mod pack for your changes, feel free to PM me.

    hi
Can you edit the tga files & the dds textures from the Patch2.pack ?
I have a message error saying that the dds or the tga plugins is either corrupted or missing

One problem of this patch is that you are not allowed to place your "sound_events" modified. If you do, game runs well, but doesn´t play any type of sound.

I made a mod that in addition to changing themes, remove loops, improve the volume and add more songs for campaign and battle. If anyone knows anything about this I would be extremely grateful

EDIT: Here is the solution to extract Patch2 files:
