Default What is next for the Total War series?

I make this thread to replace the previous one, which had over 200 pages and is now closed.

What will the series do now, with thousands more fans than before? It seems like they could go virtually anywhere after Napoleon, since they seem to use an engine for two games and start again. The series is absolutely open. Where do you see it going? Where do you want it to go?

Everyone knows that it is going to be R2TW. CA would be stupid to not revisit that era, considering it was their highest earning title.

And it is a mistake of them not to do an STW 2, since it was better quality, both SP and MP wise. RTW was crap SP wise, and even worse MP wise, but no one here cares about MP anyhow....

I don't agree - I loved Rome, even in its unmodded state.

So, it follows that I'd like Rome 2 Total War - but with some focused 'Kingdoms' style campaigns to go alongside the Grand Campaign. Things like the Romans in Britain, or the Romans vs the Carthaginians and so on.

Imagine playing RTW2 with naval battles and as you click 'ramming speed', you can imagine Ben Hur and friends rowing away below decks! They have to include a gruff Roman voice yelling 'Ramming... SPEED' as you go for another ship!

Well I was thinking about future games to encourage the Creative Assembly staff. I am convinced that they should start again in the origins, in the beginnings of the ancient history.
As far as I known there are a lot of very good games to play with the 1st and 2nd World War. On the other hand if Creative Assembly did not have many lights to improve their own failures I do not believe that they could be able to create a new game better than, for example, call of duty.

However it is probable that Creative want to do something with his wonderful British Empire (in the nineteenth century). This time of colonialism, wars and revolutions, in America and all over the world could be interesting for all. Wars like the Philippines, Cuba, Crimea, the Opium War in China, and Boers in Africa.etc
It seems that they could get a real and interesting British Empire game.

Anyway and definitely what I would like to see is come back to antiquity, with a new game maybe called: Mesopotamia, "the origin of all civilizations". A new game with more diplomacy, builder cities included for improve the cities, and creation new colonies, more history settings between the battles etc, etc, This game could have two very interesting expansions: A. Egypt and B. classical Greece. If they really work well these games with new maps, a new graphics engine and more illustration and historical setting would be a marvellous success!

Also a new Rome could follow these games. I think that this is the future for Creative Assembly.

They only just have to start improving the current TW Empire. It is a very simple way to keep loyal customers and not spiting directly in ours face. Please fix the mistakes in TW Empire or you will lose many costumers.

    Thank you.

Actually ironically E:TW has been their highest earning title. R:TW is just the one that fanboys brag about the most. IMO it was inferior to M2:TW in many ways. Having said that I voted shogun 2 since Im tired of europe and want something more exotic.

I'd like to see Rome redone but I think that for a new setting the time of the Thirty Years War would be perfect.

I'd love to either see a Shogun 2, or an all encompassing ancient era game, with multiple starts. Spread it from the tip of spain all the way east to the japan.

Man, that'd be a hell of a lot of turns to watch the AI run moves on though.

WW1 - I know its a bit of a gamble to see if they can pull it off, but there really isn't many WW1 RTS games!

RTW seems most likely and thats what a lot of the fanbase wants. Its risky for CA though. If they screw up RTW2 it will be the end of the TW series.

RTW is the game that put them on the map and the fanbase may have some unrealistic expectations for RTW2. CA may be scared to even go there right now after the Empire debacle that they are still trying to repair.

i would voted Rome 2..but i am still caught up in the gunpowder age, so i voted for the 19 century, just to make sure it is covered before they go back to Rome. i wouldn't mind though if Victorian total war be an expansion for Napy.
"Egyptians; to the young rebels, and to every one who was killed, bloodied or contributed in the simplest way, what you did has defied any description. you have the world on it's knees gazing at your bravery and determination. you have opened up a new chapter in Egyptian history, one that will be determined by people's love for this country" - an honorable revolutionary,

Empire was a huge success for the series. It topped the PC charts after release and gained a whole new fanbase. Just because a bunch of guys complained about the glitches or disliked the Era doesn't mean the collapse of a series. TW will go on.

As for me, I would hint at Rome Total War 2 coming next. However I think there are two routes that CA may take with the game engine: Either go back and make a new one for Rome Total War 2 (perhaps use elements of the old RTW engine), or go and make a WW1 Total War with a slightly expanded ETW engine (for planes and vehicles).

However Rome is most likely due to the reasons:

-Firstly the huge fanbase that RTW established. People still go back to RTW now (me being one of them). The fanbase proves just how much selling potential the title would have.

-They already have previous experience with developing game engines for this type of era.

-This title has the most support by the fans (just by looking at the poll you can tell this)

I do not think the Fantasy Total War game is very likely at all. CA would be entering a really risky market, and would probably prefer to stick to their safe Historical Game Base.

CA leave fanasy to the modders. If you like fantasy try Third Age Total War for MTW2: a LOTR based Mod ever, with unit models at ETW standard.

I do not think Shogun 2 Total War is likely either, because it is quite a limited historically for the game now (as a first title it was acceptable). However, I think that it would be great if they brought out a late period Shogun 2 as an Exp for ETW.
