Explain this to me like I'm a four-year-old.

Truth be told, I am pretty mad at CA since 1.5 disrupted my game. Tons of graphic glitches, inconsistent AI, et cetera. I know I am not the only one experiencing such issues, which will eventually be sorted out. What really drives me nuts is the hard time the latest patch has given me because of the modded files. The game was looking really good, and all of a sudden it is down the tubes. Thus, could you expain it to me as if I am a four-year old? Are there mods that are still working? I know this had been vastly debated and a few lists are out. However, my hunch is my game is only running on vanilla. Would that be possible? I had to verify cache integrity, delete patch.pack, clear fx and scripts to get it going again. Yet I haven't figure out what skins I can re-install. Any advice or help will be much appreciated. BTW: thanks everybody for making this game so much better.

The patch came out a matter of days ago. They make small changes here and there in order to implement new functionality or fix things (cavalry firing on the move for example). You then install mods based on the previous versions file structure, of course things break. The modders quickly discover what has been changed and alter their files accordingly. It can be tough to pin-point the changes, but as soon as one discovers it they simply post and everyone is aware.

In order to make their mods work it is usually a very simple addition or two here and there and the mod is fine again. I say have a little patience and wait for new versions of your favourite mod to appear over the next week or so.

In the meantime, I suggest you uninstall the game completely (don't forget to go and delete the files that are left behind after install for complete peace of mind) and then reinstall and play vanilla for a week. That is what I started doing after the last patch and have been very pleasantly surprised by the improvement (although I'm looking for a naval mod as vanilla naval battles are not to my taste).

Remember, if you go to bed early and are a good little boy Christmas will come earlier.

Thanks for your quick response, Shaggy. I've read all over the place that most mods seem to be working even after the darn patch. I was just wondering whether the modding community has figured out what mods amd packs can be re-intalled now without major hazards.

Anything with a localisation file will have problems it seems.

In the previous patch there were new columns added to the units db files, so units/stats will need updating. The previous patch was a while ago now so most active mods have already fixed those issues.

There are several naval mods out there shaggy.

There is the SL mod created by Bladerunner

The Hornblower mod created by yours truly.

and other smaller versions.

Apart from that there are the large mods Like the Darth mod or the Darth Realism mod

which change all aspects of the game that may have compatability problems

Among others, I used Preussen Gloria's Oesterreichisches Heer, Remo's re-skins, and Gazza Prussian re-skin, which i Genuinely loved. I am afraid they don't work any longer...
