    Default Wrong Disc Inserted.

    Hi everyone.

I've owned Medieval II: Total War for over a year and the expansion, Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms for about 8 months. I haven't played either in quite some time, but recently found the discs again and tried to play.

I keep getting an error message saying:

"Wrong disc inserted. Please insert the originial "Kingdoms" CD/DVD. Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=wrongdisc for further, more detailed information."

I never had a problem when I did play, so I'm confused as to why it's giving me trouble now. I checked the disc, and it's Disc 1 of Medieval 2: Total War, which I always used. Can anyone help?

SecuRom is the copy protection Sega uses for Medieval2 and Kingdoms. You do need to contact them and straighten this out so you can play.

Securom is not a new 'bug'. Just a common mistake people keep bumping into.
Were you trying to play 'Kingdoms' or the main 'M2TW campagin'?
If your trying to play Kingdoms, then have you installed any patches on it?
Its completely neccessary that you install the correct patch for the kingdoms campagin's, other wise you will get the patch conflicting with your kingdoms campagins and you will get the SecuRom error message.

Usually the SecuRom error is caused by installing the incorrect patch (v1.05) for your kingdoms campagins. Usually this is caused by a patch from a different country that isnt matching with your own game CD that was made in a different country (incorrect patch for the game). The effect of this is that all of your kingdoms campagins shouldnt work.

Still contact secuRom first just to be sure. They will tell you if theres a incorrect patch with your game.

But just in advanced if this is the problem, you will need to:

    - Fully reinstall M2TW and all Kingdoms campagins into your computer as normal. A computer clean of Medieval II: Totalwar and kingdoms completely. (Hint: Uninstall all patches and mods from your computer but make sure you leave the setups (installer, and its files) so you dont need to redownload them and you can reinstall them later).
    - Install the required patchs for M2TW only. (But only if neccessary, the M2TW Gold version is alreay installed to patch v1.03 so theres no need to install any patches for the main campagin. Normal versions of M2TW will still need to DL the patches 1.02 & 1.03).
    - Then to re-patch Kingdoms, go to:

    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
    Right click> Kingdoms.exe
    Select properties
    Click the 'Detalis' tab
    Then check the games 'Language'.

The Kingdoms 'Language' needs to be the same as the patches (v1.05) language. (So get the patch from the same place).
For example: my kingdoms is set under the English (United Kingdom) language so I needed to download and install the v1.05 English UK patch for kingdoms to run.

Note there is only 1 (official) patch for kingdoms (v1.05).
Hope that helps and saves time.
Official patches can be found here: http://www.totalwar.com/index.html?lang=en
(Click the required support tab on the left).

I was trying to play the main campaign, but I do get the same error for the Kingdom campaigns as well.

Are patches required? I've never downloaded a patch for either version of the game.

    Let's keep it simple.

First question is "do you have the correct dvd in the drive?".
Second question is "what programs do you have installed on your computer besides your operaing system you don't mention and the game?".

Fill in the blanks and I can help you.

Edit: One more, ir your dvd-rom IDE or ATA?

Regarding patches - the Kingdoms disc should update the core game to 1.3 automatically. Kingdoms is then installed to version 1.4. There is a 1.5 for Kingdoms that fixes some scripting errors in the original release - you should download it and apply.

EDIT: Ha! irishron beat me to it.

I can play Medieval 2 just fine, but not any of the Kingdoms campaigns. I keep being told to insert the correct disc and the disc I'm using is the only disc I have. Yet when I delete the main folder containing the patched game files and replace it with the backup copy I made prior to installation of the patch, everything works fine.

I use Vista and I've made doubly sure I installed the right patch.

How exactly did you make a copy of the game before? Did you use third-party software to burn the image to a DVD by chance and then apply the retail patch after the fact on that ISO?

Exactly what patch are you trying to install that's causing the problem? Is it a patch for the Vanilla M2 or the 1.5 patch for Kingdoms?

What patch version is your backup - 1.5 I'm guessing for Kingdoms. Are you sure you're applying the correct patch - Gold, non-Gold, Region specific, etc.?

    Good luck!
