Icon14 The Religious Crusades: 30 years war Total war

    Greetings Sire!

Welcome to the proposed mod The Religious Crusades. (Name is temporary) This is the upcoming mod made by Selucia Gaming Group and is our first mod so don't except so much, but do expect a good one... I hope. Well this mod is based on the legendary 30 years war where gunpowder is first seen, and so is the typical grenadier, or even 18th century musketeer units that are in Empire total war.

    Factions list

    *Sweden
    *Dutch Republic
    *France
    *Scotland
    *England
    *Holy Roman Empire
    *Hungary
    *Spanish Empire
    *Russia
    *Ottoman Empire
    *Papal States
    *Republic of Venice
    *Florence
    *Savoy
    *Genoa
    *Verona
    *Mantua
    *Milan
    *Poland-Lithuania
    *Portugal
    *Sharifate of Marrakesh
    *Ireland

    Date Start; Date Ends

    Turn 1: 1600
    Turn 300: 1675

Turns go by seasons. Spring-Summer-Fall-Winter. 4 turns per year.

    Map and Terrain Changes

Italy will recieve numerous city changes, rather then terrain. New cities such as Mantua, Verona, Turin, etc will be incoorperated into the original medieval II map. As for regions such as the baltic, we will see new cities such as Konigsberg, Danzic, etc, etc. We will also be seeing new cities in Russia too. Spain will also recieve new cities like Madrid, Santander, Bilbao, Mayorca, etc. Terrain will not change.

    New Units

Medieval Units will be scratched of the list of all factions. Now only late units will be accepted. This mod will highly concentrate on early gunpowder technology and pikes.

    New Factions/Flags

New factions are usually popping up in the Italian area, do to our recreation of the renaissance. Also most factions have only recieved name changes for example 'Poland-Lithuania', to try to portray the time period correctly. Others such as 'The Dutch Republic', are new and will have new researched units.

    Technology

Technology starts of as primitive gunpowder technology, generally will Arquebuisters, but may as well end up with French musketeers for example.

Thats it for now I will draw the map with provinces soon to give you an idea of how this will turn out! Many thanks!

Thanks I hope so too, but I only need man power for it to actually work. Units aren't a trouble, because Arquebuisters are the main backbone of the army throughout the 17th century, maybe place some armor on them, but in general it wont be hard. The game will have that, new factions, regions, etc...

update: Units for each faction will probably number around 10 per faction. All factions will have the same basic units, but will have unique units for infantry, auxilia, and cavalry, but artillery is all same, depending on factions.

Ottoman Empire: Moderate infantry, but weak missle cavalry, and cavalry. Powerful but slow firing Artillery.

    Infantry

    Peasants
    Arab Warriors
    Ottoman Infantry
    Janissary Pikemen
    Heavy Janissaries

    Auxilia

    Peasant Archers
    Desert Archers
    Voyniks
    Janissaries

    Missle Cavalry

    Desert Lancers
    Camel Gunners
    Elephant Gunners

    Cavalry

    Arab Cavalry
    Desert Cavalry
    Ottoman Cavalry
    Gen. Bodyguard

    Artillery

    Bombard
    Cannon
    Monster Bombard

England: Excellent Infantry, and Cavalry, but an amateur collection of missle units.

    Infantry

    Peasants
    Sherwood Hunters
    Welsh Spearmen
    Sergeant Spearmen
    Pikemen
    English Swordsmen

    Auxilia

    Peasant Archers
    Welsh Longbows
    Arquebusiers
    Musketeers

    Missle Cavalry

    Lancers
    Dragoons

    Cavalry

    Light Cavalry
    English Knights
    Noblemen
    Gen. Bodyguard

    Artillery

    Bombard
    Culverin
    Cannon
    Basilisk
    Mortar

Holy Roman Empire: Excellent Infantry, and gunpowder units. Poor Cavalry, and a small selection of MC but deadly.

    Infantry

    Peasants
    Spear Militia
    Sergeant Spearmen
    Billmen
    Imperial Knights
    Forlorn Hope

    Auxilia

    Peasant Archers
    Bavarian Archers
    Crossbow
    Arquebusiers
    Armoured Musketeers

    Missle Cavalry

    Lancers
    Mounted Crossbows
    Reiters

    Cavalry

    Light Cavalry
    Imperial Knights
    Gen. Bodyguard

    Artillery

    Bombard
    Culverin
    Cannon
    Basilisk
    Mortar

    France:

    Infantry

    Peasants
    Spear Militia
    Sergeant Spearmen
    Voulgor Pikemen
    Billmen
    Musketeer Swordsmen

    Auxilia

    Peasant Archers
    Crossbows
    Arquebusiers
    Imperial Musketeers

    Missle Cavalry

    Lancers
    Mounted Crossbows
    Dragoons

    Cavalry

    Light Cavalry
    French Knights
    French Nobles
    Gen. Bodyguards

    Artillery

    Bombard
    Culverin
    Cannon
    Basilisk
    Mortar

I am trying to make this as easy as possible, so what I am doing is keeping lots of units, eliminating a lot to, but making it minimal to recreate more. What is good is that medieval already has many 17th century units believe it or not.

Awesome Idea! but please let the pikemen keep their swords...I fixed the problem once and for all.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=2634

BTW, the earliest reports of gunpowder were out of Italy - obscure - 1287CE - 17 years after the return of Marco Polo. The first reported use in a European battle was around 1340CE.

Don't worry Pikemen will have secondary weapons, as in swords. In some factions I will included swordsmen and crossbows, since they were used well after the developement of Gunpowder. I will just need to research events to put from 1600-1675. Thanks for the comments. This will come out in december, I am trying to make it as light as possible for me, but different from Medieval, in units, more then territory...

jut thought you liked to know:
    Trollheim = Trondheim
    Calamar = Kalmar
    Christina = Christiania/Kristiania(from 1877) = name for Oslo between 1624 and 1925.

you might also consider the silver mines of Kongsberg. while it was an unsubstantial settlement it is assumed to have delivered 1,350 tonnes (3,000,000 lb) of silver between 1623, and 1957. in 1686 the Norwegian Royal Mint was established in Kongsberg.

For King or Country: The English Civil War.

Lets cut out the The English Civil War bit and have a look at it.

    For King or Country

    For King and Country

notice the difference? For King or Country means for the king or making the country better (civil war get it?) For king and country on the other hand is a common English battle cry.

Great ideas here but I would urge you to change the name.

For King or Country is a respected, ambitious and well established mod. Your proposal has got an almost identical name (no matter how you justify it) and changing the title at this early stage would not be a big deal surely?

It would help establish your identity and prevent any perceived disrespect to fellow modders.
