    Default Suicidal AI

I meant to ask this when it happened a few days ago, but only remembered now.

In my England Campaign (6.2), I bought Antwerp from HRE (still my closest Ally after 140 turns) and about 10 Turns later, France decided to attack thus breaking our alliance. Okay, no problem, I needed an excuse to go to war with France...

The thing is, France attacked Antwerp, the only Fortress between Toulouse and Oslo, with a full military stack that had finished retraining a Turn or two earlier, with a single unit of Militia Spearmen. Let me re-phrase that for clarity - 75 Militia Spearmen laid siege to a Fortress that was garrisoned by over 1000 experienced and professional troops.

What's with the suicidal AI? They had 2 stacks at Paris, another at Angers and two more at Rheims, but attacked Antwerp with a single militia unit?

The ensuing war lasted for about 100 years with the English/German/Norwegian alliance never having more than 2 Papal crosses between them (I never got excommunicated, despite having zero crosses a lot of the time, but HRE and Norway did... several times) and ended with France (Clermont, Lyons and Marseilles) becoming my Vassal.
I'm currently playing as England, and after hammering the Scots the Pope went medieval on my ass and booted me out of the God club. Next thing I know, I have dirty foreigners landing on my shores from wierd and far-flung countries. - Sargon_of_Akkad

France whole-heartedly believed that the voices of 75 of her finest militia men yelling and taunting at the inferior and easily annoyed englishmen would be enough to overcome any bastion, be it castle or citadel. Unfortunately, they forgot the most important rule of the french taunt: exercise it only when you yourself are on the castle wall... not the other way around.

Please, don't. I can't stand that people persist that all the time... (nothing personal)
@Sokar Rostau: download Lusted's Improved Campaign AI. I think that it makes the AI much more difficult although I've never used it (yet...).

I know that the AI is pretty retarded and its hard to get the AI to play as well as a smart player.

I guess how I comfort myself is to just imagine the AI has some sort of a plan.

for example in your case, I would just guess that maybe if I was in the AI's shoes, I want to attack you, but I know your cities are well stacked, so there is no point in sieging you and try and fight you in your castle/cities.

Instead, I'll try and send a small sacrificial group to piss you off enough for you to come and die at my castles.

It just happens that you are stronger than the AI originally thought and therefore you win in the end.

Yea the AI can be pretty stupid at times but can also be rather challenging/smart as well. Kind of a love hate relationship. Would be nice for the next rr/rc update if someone could possibly tweak it a bit more. Nothing is more satisfying than a smart, human like cai.

btw. What CAI are you using Finnking?

You mean Campaign AI? Well, I have the basic SS campaign AI at the moment, but I maybe download more difficult AI mod later. I don't find the SS AI very stupid. It works quite well IMO.

If your looking for AI that will kick your ass, get the unofficial 6.2 patch. Dayum, i get owned in hard mode, i havent even considered what turning the difficulty up to very hard would be like... It'd be as if the AI got all its troops for free and pumped them out of some massive evil 20th century factory, i imagine.

No seriously the CAI in 6.2 is amazing. Play a faction like lithuania or the TO in late game and you'll see what i mean. Overwhelming. lol.

AI still sieges fullstack citys/castles with 5 units (more than 1 ofcurse) in 6.2 VH. But i found that in 6.2 VH, AI can do pretty good ''sneak'' attacks, it waits for you to take all men expect free garrison units away, and sieges it very fast. And when you go at war with HRE, when playing like Venice, the AI really starts making things very hard. I got even screen where Papal went war with HRE, and after 5-10 turns Papal was vassal to HRE with 2 HRE stack around Rome!

What, the Papal State become vassal fo HRE ?!?
In all my SS 6.2 campaigns, the HRE is always destroyed (most of the time they're the first one to be vanished as well)
Sure, AI can spam many battle groups (each with 4 full stack armies) --> It's really tiring to beat all of them to clear the path, or being overrun by them.

sure maybe it's down to how good the kings Authority is.
    high Authority a hard king
a low Authority a silly king.

I've never actually known or even thought about what Authority does...

    ...and still dont
80 years is simply not enough to enjoy all of the fun in the world, and out of it...
