Well here it is folks; the trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm Street reboot

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-tSvrkKx2Y

Looks pretty cool from what I've seen from that trailer, and Jackie Earle Haley is the man.

I wish Hollywood would quit trying to re-make classic films. I don't care which freaking film it is; if the original movies which these re-makes are based on were as bad as the re-makes usually are, they wouldn't have become famous, and thus there would have been no re-make! I can tolerate a re-make of Nightmare, because I wouldn't exactly call it a classic, but darn it... it's the principle. The moment they try to re-make Casablanca, I am checking myself into a mental asylum, because I will need to be committed.

That's pretty fair, but there are plenty of great remakes out there, and those are the ones that honor the old ones and try something without completely raping the memory of the source material. In a way I don't see it as a remake per se, even thought my title says it. I see it as just another film in the series that (hopefully) will try something other than the incredible camp and teen humor of the sequels.

That Rorschach guy or no (and he was pretty good in Watchmen), no-one will ever match Robert Englund's evilly leering, sniggering Freddy. No-one can call a teenage girl a before gutting her quite like him. He owns the role, so it's a waste of time to even try. I speak as someone whose parents got him started on the Nightmare films when he was 9.

Funny thing is, he was in that film.. something with Children in the title. As a pervert, and the guy, whatever-his-name-brown, who sets the building on fire is someone who threatens him a bunch for being a dangerous pervert.

It'd be funnier if I could remember the film title.

"Little Children", and you're right, well-spotted - I hadn't remembered that. Those two actors are getting type-cast.

I heard they were talking about a Freddie Vs. Jason movie with Ash from the Evil Dead Series throw into the mix. That would be so awesome, but Bruce Campbell is getting pretty old for that role.

From what I hear, Robert Englund personally recommended Jackie Earle Haley for the part.
I was skeptical until I saw the trailer. It looks great, and I'll definitely see it.

That might be a little bit better but Jackie has a LONG way to go before I even cosider him the new Freddy. I mean I grew up with Freddy he was like my evil villian.

It's michael bay so pg13, we'll get a bunch of explosions, lots of cleavage and in the end the US army fires a missile up freddy's rear

What's the point of remaking this movie? Is hollywood really that low on ideas?

    He's producing it, not directing.

They felt it was time for a new one, but Robert Englund was too old. So they opted for a reimagining (not a remake) instead of a sequel; Englund himself recommended it, and the casting choice of Jackie Earle Haley.

Why on earth are they re-making this ?
The first movie was perfectly fine the way it is.
And Michael Bay being involved doesn't freaking help.
    That guy don't know movies.
Before you go "but he is a producer here", yeah and look at the movies that he has produced.
Bad movies all of them. He even produced the godawful Texas chainsaw massacre remake, a movie even worse then the movie he was re-making.
And look at the director, it's his first movie, you can just tell that he will be under Bay's control.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reimagining was pretty damn good. It was its prequel that was awful. But the first remake was good.

It was stupid, filled with horror cliches and not even scary the least.
Now the first TCM movie was pretty damn bad to begin with but atleast it tried to be special and for the most part did the trick, the dinner table scene is still fresh in my memory after 6 years since I last saw it. That part was really up in your face which was very uncomfortable to say the least.

Nightmare on Elm Street is among one of the best horror movies of all time. Having a villain coming after you in your dreams is scary concept and the movie was pretty original for it's time.
If they are gonna remake this, they have to be original too which they won't, this is Bay afterall.
The characters will be even more cliche then in the original, the deaths look pretty much ripped from the original and as good as Jackie Earle Haley was as Rorschach, he can only be as good as the script allows him too and really I doubt he will be allowed to do something new with the character.
My guess, the remake will be bland and stupid and will serve to remind us why we love the original movies in the first place, they were perfect the way they were.

If its not broken dont fix it, the original was a rather good horror movie ruined by sequels of course but it was good. I see no reason to go back to well and not even try a new direction with the material and Michael Bay doing it to boot. How about some new original horror classics instead!
