Apparently under vista/7 there is need for extra "fake" map.rmw in the folder, don't ask me why but it just works like that.

It doesn't affect gameplay and it uses no space so it's not a problem.

just downloaded it, its good, but i can't start game with provincial campaing game, for example Bactria, it crashes

For quite a while this thread has been for test versions only but this time i bring you something for the Beta Files section.
A new map pack with new textures and foliage for XC.

It is an excellent piece of work created by Charge as a standalone mod for M2TW a while ago.
I have converted it for RTW and particularly for XC, in three different versions.

BASIC----------- Just the basics to renew your XC experience. Resized textures to vanilla size, simplified sea, vanilla tree models. Best for players with low end PC's

LITE ------------- The more "Standard" package, balanced eye-candy and performance. Original greatly detailed textures, original sea, vanilla tree models. Best for the majority of players

ORIGINAL ------ The original pack by Charge with no compromises. Original greatly detailed textures, original sea, original tree models. Best for players with mid to high end PC's


Instructions: 1) Download which version you want. 2)extract the rar file into your Rome total war root folder 3) Enjoy.

Warning: These files are still in beta state so save often and any feedback is appreciated. You may also want to rep the original creator (Charge) for his generosity.

If we get positive feedback and there are not stability or performance issues we may incorporate Basic or Lite version into one of the next releases. (Not very soon though)

It is completely modfoldered and should not intervene with other mods, expansions, or even vanilla.
However if you have mods that change the original rtw files there may be some problems with LITE and ORIGINAL versions.

Now i think i got it... you mean why we won't include original pack in XC?

It has very detailed tree textures and models but can cause slowdowns in some systems
so it would be really impractical to implement and ruin the experience for many players
who have older or weaker PC's.

I'm afraid a separate installer can take a while though, if ever.
The install doesn't require any modding skills though.
just extract the rar in your Rome Total war base folder and it should take care of the rest .

I can't download the latest build. I tried downloading it with Firefox and download cancels itself, Chrome downloads it, but .exe file won't open.

Edit: Solved. Stupid Windows XP internet settings.
