    Default Names

    I received this PM from PatricianS in response to a PM from Florin saying that seeing that he'd done a lot of the work on the RTR names, he was suggesting that we should speak to the guys from RTR:

    Hi there

    FoE is coming along fairly well. We only have some issues with our atm most (and only) important bug: infinite amounts of money in the late campaign. Having so much money that you don't have enough resources to spend it all on. We've got some ideas/systems though to counter this, but they are all still WIP.

    Re the names. The TIC names are free to use for sure. (RTR policy: released = free to use with proper credits)

    Re the FoE names. I have chatted with Muizer about this. And the result was that officially you cannot use them yet. Because of the RTR policy I mentioned above. However, if you guys want to use the FoE names to implement them in the beta and start balancing/bug fixing them, then there's no problem at all. Just make sure that no-one gets to know RS has access to FoE material prior to the FoE release. We've been contacted a few times by people (Banzai! amongst others) to get some pre-release FoE units to implement them in his M2 mod. Obviously we refused this until foE has been released etc etc. But RS is a bit of a special case

    Oh and if for some reason RSII gets released before FoE is done, then I'm sure we can arange something...

    Just make sure this doesn't get public. But I'm sure that won't be any problem at all.

    You can download the TIC and FoE decr_names.txt here: DOWNLOAD

    If you need any other files, just tell me!

    Regards,
    Pat

    As in willingness to share.

    Is someone able to add all this stuff in? Also worth looking at what the guy posted on the public forum.

    There's some great material here....I'm not sure what we've implemented already in the way of new stuff to be honest...I know Mullatto researched (and I think added a load of Celtic names).

    Worth looking at the TWC post linked above too as there are some 20thC duplications in the original Roman names like having both Cnaeus (C20) and Ganeus (Latin).

    Mulatto gave me a list of Celtic names that were all put in the game....and erroneous ones were removed.
    I don't think anything was done (much) with Scythian\Sarmatian names, or names for Spanish tribes.
    The Roman names have been completely reworked. It would be fine to remove the duplicates...but bare in mind that the RTR names cover the Republican era only, and are without a doubt historical. However, this presents a problem with a time period that would include post-republican Rome when the family names and 'gens' became far less prominent. I know our names aren't exactly 'historical' in the strictest sense of being able to limit them to an appropriate time period, but the game provides no way to differentiate this. For instance, the name 'Augustus' or 'Caesar' shouldn't appear in the Republican era, but if you remove them, then you can't have them at all, nor use them at all in ANY name.

    You could always give late surnames via traits, using the "epithet" thing:

    In export_descr_characters_traits:

    Code:
    Trait PompeiusMagnus
        Characters family
        Hidden

        Level Pompeius_Magnus
            Description Pompeius_Magnus_desc
            EffectsDescription Pompeius_Magnus_effects_desc
            Epithet Pompeius_Magnus_epithet_desc
            Threshold  1
    In export_VnVs

    Code:
    {Pompeius_Magnus}	Pompeius Magnus

    {Pompeius_Magnus_desc}
    Lucius Cornellius Sulla named Pompeius The Great

    {Pompeius_Magnus_effects_desc}
    Gains the name Pompeius Magnus as an epiteth

    {Pompeius_Magnus_epithet_desc}	Pompeius Magnus
    In this case, I did not want the descendants to inheritate the trait, so I used this trigger:

    Code:
    Trigger dads_pompeiusmagnus
    	WhenToTest CharacterComesOfAge

    	Condition FatherTrait PompeiusMagnus >= 1

    	Affects PompeiusMagnus  1  Chance  0
    I guess that someone more skilled with traits than me (not difficult) can come up with a trigger that suits what you are looking for.

    For instance, a trigger that at a certain date changes the Cornelii surname for Domitius Corbulus.

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    The problem with epithets is that it will always remove the last name of the character.

    They are to be included in the descr_name, descr_name_lookup and text/names?
    If so, I can do them for the Scythian\Sarmatian names, and names for Spanish tribes.
    Maybe other nations?
