Medieval 2: Total War: Kingdoms Britannia installation problem (Gold Edition)

Hi, I am having problems installing M2TW Kingdoms Britannia campaign on Gold Edition. The installation process goes first normally but after I insert disk 2, it just doesnt do anything at all. And after about 20 minutes I get error: "Medieval II Total War: Gold has failed to install Medieval II Total War: Britannia. Aborting Installation". I have contacted the SecuROM support but they said its not SecuROM related problem.

I am suspecting that my CD drive can not read the disk, expecially disk 2 and therefore the installer is having problems getting the files from it. When I insert the disk 2 then sometimes the computer just acts that there is no disk at all and I have to pull it out and put back in. Sometimes it recognizes the disk but when I try to open it and read the files, it just loads forever. However the disk itself is fine as I have tried it on other computer (laptop) and there it worked instantly.

Any solutions?

Is your disc dirty? Cleaning the disc helped me, although the lag lasted for about a minute only.
Otherwise I can't help.

Nope, I tried the disk on other computer and it recognized disk instantly. I could install M2TW + Gold without any problem.

FinnKing has the right idea. If it read one it should read the other. Check it over real good for dirt, scratches, cracks in the plastic, etc.

Can you read the files on the disc in Computer?

Edit:

Since your answer beat me, what other programs do you have loaded besides Vista and Medieval2?

I have attached image on this post.

Usually my computer recognizes disk 1 and I can read the files on it but I am always having problems with disk 2.

I think I see the problem.

The dxdiag says your dvd-ram is ATA. Is the other computer's dvd-ram you were able to the game on also ATA? Is your dvd-ram Blu-ray?

The driver for your optical drive is a bit old. Have you tried to update it recently?

Sure. Between the old ATA and the new BLuRay problems it looks like this game is going to be uninstallable pretty soon....

Obvious question, have you tried the setup.exe in the Brittania folder?

Seriously, I don't think your dvd-ram is totally backward compatible with this game.

I get that impression also. I also don't doubt that your drive is not out of date - I think it just was updated to a point and then discontinued by LG.

Let's try this from another angle. Can you read any of the files on the disc at all by going into Windows Explorer and opening the disc? It might be possible to copy the whole Britannia folder to your computer and then run the installer off of your hard drive. If you do try this then remember to take the disc out of the DVD player before running the installer.

Nope, I open the Britannia folder, try to run setup.exe but nothing happens... Eventually it somehow locks itself so I can't click anything inside the folder without going to "not responding" -state. Had to take the disc out.

Next I tried to copy the whole folder to my desktop but I get error: "Cannot read from the disc: _setup.dll". So doesn't work either...

I also noticed that whenever I restart the computer with the disc inside, the computer would hang during the restart and after the "Fujitsu Siemens Computers" -logo. All I can see is black screen with white dot flashing in the upper left corner. As soon as I take the disc out, everything comes back to normal. This happens with both disc 1 and disc 2.

Well then you're down to only a few options. You can try buying a cleaning kit for DVD players - this might help but it could just be that your drive is on its last legs.

The other option is to use a different computer as a bridge. Using the second computer you can copy all of the Brittania files to a folder on that desktop and then use a flash drive to move the files to your system. If you manage to get all of the files on your computer this way you should be able to run the installer and get the campaign working.

Otherwise there isn't much to tell you. Something just isn't kosher with your DVDROM. Now if you try the second method and the second computer can't read the Brittania files then you know you have a bad disc. Good luck!

Good news!! I tried that and it worked! I succesfully managed to install the Britannia campaign on my computer.
