    Default Sick of Scythia

I know this has been mentioned many times before but I am getting bored of Scythia totally dominating everyone with there stacks upon stacks of horse archers!
I remember someone posting that they modded Scythia so that it took something like 4 or 5 turns to recruit horse archers and that seemed to keep them on the steppes.
I am not sure how i do this so could someone please help so i can enjoy this great mod once again ? ? ? ?

Which version are you playing RB? For in the new versions of XGM, that is since Scytia is tuned down, they do not expend out of the steppes at all in my campaigns.

heh. I'm finding them a major problem too, I'm currently in a German campaign and am trapped between Carthage in Iberia since all of Gaul and Britannia is mine; Thrace to my south (Rome hasn't attacked the indy Gauls) and Scythia in the east. I've resorted to a line of forts and using the river as a natural defensive position.

I guess I'll download 5.8. Is there any way to turn landbridges off without reinstalling?

In my most recent campaign as the Ptolemies, they've invades Asia Minor, but in my Armenian campaign, they haven't even invaded Germania yet, and have kept their cease-fire with me. So I guess it depends on the game that you play. The AI has a tendancy to attack you, so maybe that's why you are being attacked in Germenia, Diomede?

Indeed. I've noticed a tendency for Thrace to do so as well, especially if you kill off Germania as the Gauls. Thrace was actually the main reason for my defensive line at the south of the Elbe - here's hoping once Thrace or Macedon hurry up killing each other so the victor can go northwards.

Thrace has a huge tendency to blob ever since the Indie Celt cities in Eastern Europe were removed. Scythia should get big, but they're recruitment is pretty much limited to the steppes, so don't expect them to drive to the atlantic like they used to...

Welp. Unfortunately I had to reinstall so I'm taking a break from barbarian factions to try my hand at the provincial campaigns. Still not cracked VCs for Germania, so I'll go back to that eventually. Still not sure why I can't get Troy to work (that expected start date error), but I'm happy with XGM for now.

For now? XGM is the best mod ever, why change?

Variety is the spice of life.

In that vein of thought, I saw Medieval II gold on offer so decided I may as well.

Me too. Installed it recently but haven't really gotten to play it much. Gotta find a good mod so I don't hate it, methinks, unless its substantially better than RTW's vanilla.

Regarding Scythia, in my Seleucid campaign I decided to hold a static line against them at the Cuacus Mountains. I eventually had two armies guarding my northern border, composed of 60% Theuruphoroi (spelling? I always get that one wrong) 30% Median Cavalry and 10% Onagers. All upgraded to Gold Armor and Weapons, and with silver chevrons after killing off several stacks of nasty horse loving barbarians. It is really fun to watch the AI try and deal with my ranged weaponry - almost always does silly things that result in my substantial victory. I would imagine a similarly composed army with any faction would do well against the Scythians. Not too much upkeep either, which is nice - lets me focus on my real armies.

That was my unfortunate mistake. The gold edition is full of read-only files and I forgot it was unmodable.

I played a Macedonian campaign, and did a pseudo-historical Alexander like campaign, except not in 10 years, whilst taking Indian, parts of Greece Alex didn't and a bit south of Egypt. Whilst I had taken Pontic, Armenian, Seleucid and Baktrian land, The Parthians and Scythians never attacked me, and honoured their alliance. All other factions attacked me when my border was weak (I expanded all my men to Asia, and left my Greek lands open to Thracian, and German invasion), but when I left the ones near the Armenian mountains weak, Scythia had alot of men nearby, but never attacked me.
Am I just lucky? I would hate to face 90% HA armies with phalanx.

Either your lucky, or Scythia is too terrified of you to press its advantage.

Seriously? I have Gold just haven't looked closely at the files... Curses! Foiled again!

There must be a way to mod Gold edition. But I shall look it up later, when I'm not tired.

IIRC the Rome gold edition is unmodable, but perhaps that's just with the likes of XGM where you have a wizard that loads it... If it can be modded, it'd be a case of manually editing a file then deleting the original I think. I've been awake more than a day now though, so I'm not even going to touch it. XD

At the very least, w/ M2 Gold, you can install a mod, maybe just not edit it yourself? I'd be okay with that, I'm content with messing around with the limited knowledge of RTW modding I have.
