    Icon3 Little idea for changing siege equipment building

    Hi guys, first time poster, long long long time reader (I know, I'm an evil lurker and should be shunned.) However, I had a little idea, but not knowing anything about actually modding, I don't know if it would be possible/worth the effort. What if, depending on the terrain you're in, it would take longer and shorter to build siege equipment? I have to credit the KoJ AAR that Joul Ironhand is running for giving me the idea.

    So for example, if you're besieging Damascus (as he was) and you want to build siege equipment, shouldn't it take longer to build than in, Germany say where forests are abundant? I think it would be a neat little addition of realism to the game.

    Sometimes in wanting more realism you can sacrifice game balance. Which is not always a good idea, lets remember that this is a game first, and a recreation of medieval history second. If certain factions can build siege equipment quicker than other factions in other areas of the map then you have an unbalanced game. This would create the most problems for a hotseat game because at the start of the game some players would be able to capture rebel settlements quicker than other factions. So the idea is a non starter really even if we could adjust building times of siege equipment to vary, which we can't.

    yeah not sure its aplicable but the only way i can think of being able to achieve sort of what you want is by the use of hidden traits. what i mean is you could give traits (make them hidden ) that give building bonuses when in area of fertility forrest etc , not sure you can make negative build points to do the reverse in desert regions but i could look for you LOL .

    It would take a bit to implement as it be tricky coding it but that sort of thing i mentioned is possible is it sort of what you ment ? as this would not give any one faction an advantage merely a bonus for any faction in an area where wood be easy to find and use for siege gear ??

    Yeah that's exactly what I meant, that everyone would have the same bonuses and penalties depending on the area they're in. But I suppose Dave has a point, expanding in the desert would be much more difficult than expanding in the forest right off the bat.

    Hmm, maybe by removing the rebel settlements from the desert and balancing them between factions? Heh getting more and more complicated. The balancing would be off I suppose. Aah well, just a little idea I had.
