Default Do YOU know your British Empire?

Hey there all! I've just created a quiz on Sporcle where the player has to list as many territories of the British Empire as they can within a time limit of 12 minutes - why not exercise your history knowledge and give it a go!

I got 41. It's picky about some things, like the way you write Turks and Caicos, and it has Falkland Islands dependencies, but not British Indian Ocean Territory is questionable

Hehe I've been ironing out problems like that this afternoon, but British Indian Ocean Territory was always in there I think (shows up as Chagos Archipelago but will still come up if you type in 'British Indian Ocean Territory').

Also, for those who want a head start - try typing in British Western Pacific Territories, British Leeward Islands and British Malaya!

I got 36, including some I was surprised I even knew (like Ceylon) but then again I have a world map on the wall next to me. Wouldn't accept the Thirteen Colonies.

52, didn't accept a few more like USA (which i tried in about 15 different names as well)
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

Ah yeah, that's 'cause it's only the territories the Empire held at its largest point - in 1920. In effect, it's all the territories of the 'Victorian Empire', and possessions such as the Thirteen Colonies, Minorca, Ionic Islands etc are therefore not included!

Oh excellent, a Tomyris quiz. I've been waiting for this sort of thing for a long time.

    21. But that's only because I haven't slept for ages and who on earth knows about British Togoland anyway?

41/100, had most of the large territories correct. Nice site btw, though their "Greatest Battles of WW2" quiz is pretty weak.
