Teutonic install/play problem

Im having an alarming problem with my Teutonic campagin. Recently I was installing a patch (kingdoms patch 1.5) but unfortunatly the winRAR (with the setup installer) wasnt fully downloaded because somthing happened to the internet while I was downloading. Unaware of this I went ahead installing the patch, then I noticed when watching the 'installation' that the installer was auctarly uninstalling kingdoms: Teutonic. So I quickly cancelled the installation (pressing the red X ). I wasnt sure but I had a feeling some of the origional files were deleted, so I decided to uninstall all of M2TW and all the kingdoms campagins. I couldnt uninstall kingdoms: teutonic because the uninstaller for the teutonic campagin was already gone.

I then went to reinstall M2TW and all the kngdoms campagins. When I inserted the disc and the small window poped up, I noticed Teutonic campagin was already installed. So Insted of installing all of M2TW and kingdoms I went around looking for teutonic files, deleting them/ removing them from the computer. (I also made sure to get rid of any other M2TW and kingdoms files).

But still, teutionic registors as being installed when I place the CD into the Harddrive.

I have also removed any mods currently on my computer for M2TW and kingdoms.

So far I know the britinia campagin works and im sure M2TW, crusades and america will also work.

When I go to play teutonic, the game quits out.

What can I do?

It's odd that the Installer tried to uninstall the game - that's not what it's designed to do. That's one funky download you must have had.

Your problem is that you still have registry keys remaining from the previous install that are telling your system that the game is still installed. Download a good reg cleaner and try purging your system of old keys. CCleaner is (unofficially) recommended by this board. I personally use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Either way you need to do some maintenance on your registry. Good luck!

Thx polecat I'll look up the Eusing Free Registry Cleaner or CCleaner. Strange, I didnt think the CD key would be the problem in the first place although it dose now seem pretty obvious. I thought the problem would have been much worse.... I shouldnt say that xD

It's not necessarily the CD key although that is saved as a reg key also. Reg keys are made so the system knows what software is installed and what it's functions are. Any key left behind is potentially problematic. A thorough cleaning should do the trick. If not let us know and we'll help you track down the problem. Good luck!

EDIT: Make a restore point first - it's like a snapshot of your registry. This way if you mess something up you'll have something to go back to.

I then clicked 'Repaired registry' and also made a restored registory from the previous clean up. After which I restarted my computer and put back the M2TW disc back into the harddive. The M2TW window poped up and teutonic was still appearing installed. Just to be sure I pressed install but the installer detected that teutonic was already installed but from where?!

Im Dling CCleaner as I type so Ill try that and see what happens

EDIT: CCleaner didnt fix the problem either. The registry cleaner did find some unused codes but fail to fix teutonic

This was always a possibility. I'm going to hazard a guess and say that you're running Vista.

I think the problem here is that you still have some files around from your original install that haven't been deleted. Remember that this game was written before Vista was around - the game's Un-installer isn't designed for all of the possible locations that Vista writes info to.

Do the following please:

• Open the "Start" button and choose the "Search" function.
• Search for "\appdata". This should bring up the Vista Virtual Store (I could be mistaken - I don't have a Vista machine to try this on anymore)
• Manually search for any reference to M2 or Kingdoms (look below). You can either send them to the Recycle Bin or cut them out of this folder and put them in a quarantine folder.
• Try to install again.

This might work and it may not. Hopefully it will. If I'm wrong about the Vista angle then it might be that some reg keys are surviving the purge from the two reg cleaners. If that's the case then you'll need to work it from a different angle - manually delete reg keys. Let us know what you find. Good luck!

EDIT: Holy Crap. Don't delete all references to M2 or Kingdoms - Just Teutonic. Sorry, I forgot what your problem was....

If you are using Vista, did you get the Teutonic files out of the virtual store?

There was a teutonic folder i just found in the VS. The folder was empty and has now been deleted. Other then that Im sure any teutonic files ive seen have been deleted.

Let's try this differently - use the "Search" option again but this time search for "Teutonic" in the search bar. It may be that there are other locations that still have info you need to purge. If you find some then delete. Make sure to set the search function to search everywhere possible.

If this doesn't work then it might be manual reg editing.

Dont worry, Ive been around the virtural store and appdata looking for teutonic files (and ive only been deleting teutonic files). The other campagins work fine and so dose the main campagin. Just so you know the path to get to appdata and the virtural store is:

C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
With view hidden files 'on'

I also made a search under 'teutonic' (In C:\ .....) and suprisingly I found some files. Even though yesterday I made the same search and deleted all the teutonic files. Maybey I didnt do the search in C:\ befor.

Anyway the search came up with these files:

I don't see why you shouldn't delete those files - go ahead. Also check those paths for other files that may be related to Kingdoms. Don't delete any files you can't identify but there may be a few others that have some connection to Teutonic campaign. Good luck!

There may be a way but I'm not familiar with it. Theoretically you might be able to use the Unpacker to try moving the pack files from the disc to the harddrive but I wouldn't suggest it unless you're desperate.

The last thing I will recommend for you to do now is manually edit the Registry and Installshield info. I do this reluctantly but I don't see another option.

Make sure you've created a restore point on your system! This is important - it will keep you from having to re-install Windows if you eff-up.

Check out this thread. This is just for you to see what you're up against.

The reg key for the Teutonic campaign is [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{7AEE1963-7001-4C37-BC20-2FAEB74AA41C}.

You'll need to do the following:

• Hit the "Start" button and click the option "Run program".
• In the window that opens type "regedit". This will open the Registry Editor.
• At the top of this window click "Edit" and then "Find" in the menu.
• Type in the key I gave above. Make sure it is exact. Cut and paste from here if you have to.
• Once you've found it delete. Don't touch anything else here. Close the editor afterwards.

Next you'll need to go to the Installshield information folder. There is another piece of info that has to be nuked.

• Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Installshield Installation Information.
• Find this key: {7AEE1963-7001-4C37-BC20-2FAEB74AA41C}.
• Delete it and close the folder.

After all this, reboot the system. Hopefully it loads correctly. If not you'll have to load it in "Safe Mode" and restore to the restore point.

EDIT: I think the above should be enough but there is the possibility of other keys related to Teutonic are in other locations in the Registry. If this isn't enough let us know.

Went through the regeditor, I couldnt find [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{7AEE1963-7001-4C37-BC20-2FAEB74AA41C}.

It must have already been deleted by one of the other regeditors.

I also went to the Installshield information folder, searched for {7AEE1963-7001-4C37-BC20-2FAEB74AA41C}. Couldnt find it, so im guessing it has also been deleted.

I restarted the computer anyway, and teutonic campagin is still appearing to be installed.

Edit: I did some 'manual' searching in windows regeditor and found some more teutonic files.

Deleted the file, restarted the computer. Still no change. I think I had better just manually install this bad boy insted of wasting my time looking for and deleting files. Teutonic is just a mod (campagin) so there cant be to many files to move right? The only problem I see is finding all the files first and then moving them, but since the normal installer installs the campagins one by one I'm guessing also that the campagins are seperatly kept on the disc.... or somthing close to that.

I am starting think of my experiences with this game ad the way it installs to go with the problems you are having, I seriously believe you need to consider a complete uninstall and do a fresh install. May think it is time consumig, but think of the time you have spent trying to endrun it.

Yer that didnt work either hmmm maybey I should manually put the uninstaller for the teutonic campagin in my computer, hopefully then uninstall teutonic campagin. OR I could manually install teutonic campagin? All the other campagins and main campagin are working fine. Dam teutonic is being sturbon
