Game won't install.

Evening Gents,

Ordered MTW2 earlier this week on Amazon and finally got it today, great, makes a change from Rome which is an awesome game too.

However, just is my luck, this didn't run smoothly as I get to the point in the second disc where it should be loading the voice files (voice1.dat or something like that*) on to my computer but instead crashes.

I'm running an XP operating system and if anyone can tell me how to provide the specs you need to solve the problem then I'll be happy to do that.

On the third attempt, which I tried installing to C:\ instead of D:\, with the latter being my largest drive, I encountered a different error...

E:\main\world\maps\battle\custom\(1v1)_deathtrack_MP\map.wfc

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I'm guessing it's not my day today!

Its a CRC-error. PoleCat explained it and the fix in other topic:

If it's from Amazon, did you get it from Amazon itself or one of its side dealers they supply links to? Amazon itself I would say a new disc. Some of those discount side dealers deal in used games and are as bad as some on ebay. Because of that check your disc over real good for dirt, scratches, fingerprints, or where someone played frisbee with their dog with it.

While you're at it, load a dvd you know works and make sure your drive isn't dying.

Is the E: path your optical drive (seems like it would be with both C and D drives)? If so then this latest error indicates a problem reading the disc. CRC errors mean the the disc isn't reading properly for some reason. As the discs are new we might be able to rule out damage, but they could still be smudged or even defective (as in a bad transfer to the disc).

Make sure they're clean with no smudges/fingerprints and try again. If that doesn't work you might browse the disc to see if you can access all of it - if it hangs in a certain spot it may mean the disc is faulty or your drive can't read it for some reason. Also try the discs on another system to see if you have problems on multiple machines.

I'll check on next doors computer when he's back from work and yes unfortunatley I could only get it from a third party on Amazon with both the game and it's expansion being the White Label editions.

Oh to be able to play the expansion!

I'll let you know how I get on installing it on another computer later, cheers for the help so far!
