    Default Mod Virgin hates chainshot

    I haven't done any modding (well, in the TW series) and I come hat in hand for guidance specifically in how to change or change back some of the naval ranges and damage factors, in particular those for the new super chainshot. I presume I need both the PFM and the DBEditor, but *oh my* there are a lot of posts in those threads. I'd like a "little" help getting up the learning curve for this narrow focus.

    Well -- if you are going to make the changes for your game and NOT distribute them you can use DBE or PFM and edit your patch.pack. The values you are looking for will be labeled in the db/projectiles_tables. You'll find damage, range, and several other factors that will help you adjust chainshot and any other shots you might want.

    You can also use PFM to extract the projectiles table fromt he patch.pack. You could then use PFM to create a new pack and make it relative to the ETW/data folder. Import the projectiles table and edit the values in your new packfile.

    I'd make the pack a movie type so you don't have to worry about editing your user script.

    No intent to distribute, I wouldn't inflict my experiment on anyone else!

    I think I understand the ideas you mentioned (if not yet how to do them) except for "make the pack a movie type" but I guess I'll figure out what questions to ask if I get that far.

    No problem -- you can set what type of pack file; movie, mod, etc., inside PFM.

    Movie pack types do not need to be added to your user script to load, they load on their own.

    Mod type packs have to be added to a script file so that Empire knows to use them.

    I've done this already if you want to compare your own changes with mine. I'd be interested in what you change.

    I have your changes, in fact. Likely I'll do something similar...however, changes are on hold until I finish up my GB campaign. At the speed that I play NTW will be out before then.

    BTW, Drake, have you been able to edit the 1.5 tables or only 1.4?

    I redid my changes with the 1.5 version, but then ran into some minor issues with it conflicting with the smoke and blood mod, so I just edited the script I got from that one. Smoke and Blood mod is my favorite, playing without it was just unacceptable! I've changed a whole lot more of the naval attributes now, I also standardized all the ship attributes (accuracy, and reloading), with favor to both on the larger ships.

    I'll post it when I get home later.
