    Default Is this possible?

According to the classic legionary. First line is composed of mostly hastasi. Second line is composed of Principe. Third line is compose of Triari.

I was thinking if it's possible to allow the hastasi to get promote into principe and the principe promote into triarii?

Otherwise, using the classic 3 lines would be kind of pointless...
The hastasi will most likely get mow down, principes will most likely finish the job, and triari will just chill...

I mean I would rather go with all principes... So is there like a mod or anything that allows you to promote etc?

This has crossed my mind, too, but sadly it's impossible. Really, the only reason to make historical Roman armies is to play historically. That said, I think I've had decent luck getting the AI to do it based on unit costs.

I find that with upgrades to armour+weapons and experience - that Hasti can become pretty tough, tough enough to last anyway. The trick is to keep them alive, so in the early game where i'm working on forming and developing my key two armies, i will use the hasti to simply weaken an enemy. Then when/if they start to loose a few too many men i withdraw them and let the Princepes take over.

So while they never actualy get to become Princepes themselves, a top equiped and veteran hasti unit is worth it's weight on the battlefield. Still an actual real promotion would be fun, shame it's a no go.

well i guess there isn't really a point using hastasii then, I mean their stats compared to principe are just too weak. Also, placing them on the front lines will only get mowed down by missles...

Actually it should be a cost/upkeep factor, wich determines how many of each of those units you can have in your armies, since we cannot determine, how many hastati and princeps can be drawn from the population ( actually of Roma only, if we stay realistic ) entirely. The only problem is: the costs must be balanced for both - AI and player, because otherwise Roman AI would build "princeps only" armies too and there will be less fun for the player fighting against them. Therefore itīs up to the player to play rather historicaly, using hastati and princeps in an apropriate correlation.

indeed upkeep(even more so in ExRM) is a hugely important factor - you just can not afford multiple stacks all over the place. hasti have their place imho(as do all the units infact, nicely balanced overall).

That's theoretically do-able, but I have no desire to do anything more than nudge a player in the direction of historical gameplay. This is a game, and, in the end, people should be allowed to play however they wish.
