Can't extend formations thinner than 10 or so rows...

I'm having a slight minor problem after radically expanding the unit size. Now that the average regiment size in my game is around 1,000 for Infantry, and about 375 for cavalry (I done this through the preferences file), the game no longer allows me to 'stretch' as it were the formation to a long line.

To better explain this, here's a somewhat depiction of my problem:

Here's the basic layout of one of my 1,000 man Line Infantry regiments:

I want to make this 'phalanx' or 'square' formation into a long line of let's say 3 rows, to do this I obviously have to hold right click down and drag in a sideways motion, correct? Here's what happens:

This is NOT being caused by landscape blocking the positioning (For instance when the same problem occurs when trying to position on a mountain).

I believe this is hardcoded, but it might be in the formations.bin, if you fine a fix that would be great because I need one two.

have you tried editing the amount of ranks the Unit is deployed in? I took a unit of 500 and deployed in 2 ranks no prob. I just edited the amount of ranks it is deployed in
