    Default Proverbs

Post here the proverbs, you think are the best, the funniest or the most beautifull of your language. Post them in this way:

    -Original proverb
    -English translation
    -Meaning

Say also from which language they are. If you are originally English, then you can also post non-familiar proverbs or slang.

Make your translation as nice as you can

Here are some of mine in Dutch:

    1
-Doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg.
-Act normal, then you are allready crazy enough
    -...

    2
    -Oost west, thuis best.
    -East west, home best.
    -Home sweet home

    3
-Ze kan door de bomen het bos niet meer zien.
-Because of the trees, she can't see the forest anymore.
-Because of the many details, she can't she it as a whole

    4
    -Van hier tot tokyo
    -From here to Tokyo
    -A long way

Some Swedish prverbs. Not the best ones, but the ones that I hear most often

    Bättre fly än illa fäkta
    Better escape than fight badly

Den som ger sig in i leken, får leken tåla
The one who joins the game must take the concequences

Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder
There is no bad weather, only bad clothes

Ge dig inte på berg när det finns småsten
Don't attack mountains when there are pebbles

    Kasta inte sten i glashus
Dont throw rocks in a house made of glass

    Nära skjuter ingen hare
Close shoots no rabbit/Close won't shoot a rabbit

Som man bäddar får man ligga
As you make your bed, you get to lie

Tala är silver, tiga är guld
Speaking is silver, keeping silent is gold
I made a lot of music for RS II, and that is very awesome because RS II is a very awesome mod!

    Ní tír gan teanga
    No nation without language

Níor bhrís focal maith fiacal riamh
A good word never broke a tooth

Bíonn an Bás ar agaidh an tseanduine agus ar chúl an duine óig
Death does be facing the old person and behind the young person

    Sláinte is bás in Éireann
    Health and death in Ireland

Is minic a bhrís béal duine a shrón
It is often that a person's mouth broke his nose

    Aithníonn ciaróg ciaróg eile
A beetle knows another beetle (it takes one to know one)

An rud nach féidir ní féidir é
The thing without possibility is not possible

    Is minic ciúin ciontach
    The quiet is often culprit

Tír gan teanga tír gan anam
Land without language, land without soul

    Tús maith leath na hoibre
A good start is half the work

Dá mbeadh soineann go Samhain bheadh breall ar dhuine éigin
If there were fair weather until October, someone would be complaining

Is fearr rith maith ná drochsheasamh

A good run is preferable to a bad standing

    Bíonn blas ar an mbeagán
There is taste on the little piece (a little bit of anything is nice)

Más maith leat do mholadh, básaigh
Más maith leat do cháineadh, pós

If it's praise you want to have, die
If it's criticism you want to have, marry
