Default Inexperienced soldiers and useless fleets...

I've had two problems of late in my Novgorod campaign:

    1. My infantry take ages to gain experience. I've added screens of battles in Estonia, Finland and Gotland as examples.

    2. There is a fleet of pirates in a Russian lake and a Turkish fleet in the Dead Sea!

I'm guessing this isn't a bug so I've put it in the main forum, but feel free to move it if I'm wrong.

I haven't looked at your pics, but are you re-training your troops regularly? If you are losing plenty of soldiers in battle, and re-training them at a nearby settlement, you are adding fresh recruits - therefore, no experience.

Secondly, the pirates in lakes is a known bug. I play 6.1, so I'm not 100% sure if it's been taken out.

I don't retrain (not time! Take one settlement, head for the next, thank god for Bishop Alexei* ). And those screens are literally just after the battle anyway. This is 6.2 with RR/RC.

Infantry take much longer than cavalry to gain experience, usually due to the fact that they take more casualties then cavalry and cause less enemy casualties.

Try telling that to my Javelin men who caused 132 Kills, and captured 612 over 3 Battles, and got 2 Bronze Chevrons - having lost 11 Men.

This is on small, so I numbered 48 strong, reduced to 37.

My experience with infantry is to merg them together after a battle and retrain the incomplete regiments. That way you will combine multiple lower-experienced troops together and generate some more chevrons quicker. You will need to retrain for this to work ofcourse..

As for the pirate ships in closed waters (REALLY anoying, it has no use and makes the campaign map look ugly) I usually use the move_character cheat to move them to open water and it's all good again.

Hmm... I've never seemed to have a problem with gaining experience, but then again, I play 6.0. Perhaps it has been made harder in more up to date versions?

How do you manage to do this? My cavalry units will often lose 1/2 to 2/3 of a unit per battle in spite of them not taking on spearmen or other heavy cav. They just seem to drop like flies. That said, they do kill a lot, so I still love them.

Pirates ships in lakes, that has been discussed before and it's a bug. I have no idea has it been fixed or not though.

    My cheat console is broken

Edit: OH! After playing Rome I'd tried to use the ` key to cheat

How? If you're English, it's the '@' key, if you're american, it's the tilde '~' key, IIRC.

Here's a way to cheat your pirate ships out of the lakes and to the open water: (example taken from Ceasar at another topic)

So for example, after pressing ~ to bring up the console enter in:

    Code:
    move_character Robert 29,129
Use the console command show_cursorstat to get the co-ordinates of a piece of open sea to move the boats to.
