Source: Cats and Dogs Used for Testing - About Animal Testing (UK)Benefits and Controversy of Cats in Animal Testing
Cats are actually used quite regularly in the field of neurology, where they have contributed to our knowledge and development of neurological research. This type of research is considered to be extremely invasive, despite its benefits for human diseases. Unfortunately, these experiments are thought to cause pain in approximately half of all cats used, which fuels the anger of animal welfare groups who cite that the practice should be halted. A cat's nervous system is a widely supported area by the research community. Nerve cells may be isolated and obtained from a cat's brain for experimental use or alternately, a study in the United Kingdom created spinal cord damage with the aim of understanding nerve pathways. Another focused area of research with cats entails the cat's visual pathways. Cats are also considered extremely useful for understanding human biology. Researchers may modify an aspect of the cat's physiology to observe the results or create a disease state to test a drug. However, claims against this type of research cite that much of the experimentation is triggered by scientific curiosity rather than actual applied, practical research.
A great variety of animals are used for testing -- this only hits a special chord because these kitties could be a pet if not for fate. There is no real issue here though. If this was a rat tripping out, there would not be a posted video. Animals are chosen for testing due to particular atributes.
no testing occurs in the developed world without clearing an ethics board review for approval. My local university has several hoops that need to be cleared prior to any testing. This video tries to place the testing in the worst of light. To be honest -- you do not even know the full purpose of the research, the necessity for using the felines, nor the paperwork involved prior to the testing.

We dont know if people are still testing this out on cats as of today... do we?![]()
Cats are still used today. So are dogs, mice, rats, algea, plankton, etc. Being uneasy about this stuff is OK. I would be more concerned if people did not care. I do not like either, but I also want to make life better for humanity. Sometimes tough calls need to be made. testing is essential for human medical knowledge as well as to better manage agriculture; not to mention the testing for veterinary medicine for felines.

I wish they'd give me LSD like that sometime and test me.
This would be true if the cat had the cognitive ability to realize he was about to be dosed with some awesome LSD.
You give a human LSD like that and he knows he's about to fry his nuts off for 8 hours. He at least knows what he did and what he's getting into.
That cat has no idea what theis going on.

Maybe next time they can test that drug on you.
Your grandma's heart medicine. Your little cousin's asthma medicine. Your uncles diabetes medication. All get tested on animals. No testing, no drugs, and a LOT of people die.
Hard decisions. Should the animals live or people die? Some would say the people should die. My vote is for the animals. If you feel that strongly about it, stop taking medicines and get your family to do the same.
Rest of us who don't have any problem with it, will keep using modern medicine.
Id be down for gettign tested
people who are ignorant on subjects really should research them before crying there eyes out for those cats.
People test on some animals because they are similar and not sentient. Not being sentient also means their actions are more predictable, so by observing what there actions upon being administered lsd are, you can determine which parts of the brain are being affected.
First of all this vid is from the 50s , and second of all lsd is hardly a harmful drug, not only that but the cats not being physically harmed by lsdin this video or really anything at all, its just having trouble standing up, with some muscle spasms.
They are just expanding their mind dude... fight the power young feline brother...
That was funny as hell. And then the guy picks it up and it falls on its face.![]()
I feel a little guilty for laughing as hard as I did.
Reminds me of spiders on drugs
