I must praise the RS2 team. They are to realism as Herodotus is to history!

ATTEMPTED INSULT ( other than Herodotus is now considered very accurate )

Hopefully when the team moves on to Empire Total War they will include the famous Swedish Lapland cavalry.

    INSULT

But this mod doesn't interest you right...?

    Source or reference ?

The reindeer "helmets" were found in the tombs of kings, on horses sacrificed to the kings for the afterlife. They were special regalia for sacrificial horses. The horses were tarted up with gold, jewels, and then sacrificed, so that the king would have a "lion" or a "griffin" mount in the afterlife. The idea that Scythian reindeer cavalry roamed the steppe, let alone entire platoons [not an officer/king], is as patently ridiculous as stating the Egyptian pharoahs went into battle dressed up as mummies, tossing jars containing their internal organs!

And you have a vase with a picture of Scythian reindeer cavalry in the semi-mythological (see Herodotus) Persian wars. Wow, its not like Greeks didn't use vases to depict mythological or fantastic scenes. I guess Laplanders really had a might host of reindeer cavalry to fall back on based on the picture I posted.

Guys, use some common sense. INSULT

You guys begrudge Romans their Lorica Segmentatum and yet what do you have here? Made-up Macedonian reformed units. Entire barbarian regiments in full scale and mounted on reindeer. Jeeze.....

    Say what??

Normally the 'RS2 guys' try to ignore technicolour yawns and leave most responses to the leader in charge. But occasionally after constantly having to provide sources, information etc for our decisions, we grow tired. Rarely, when someone disapproves do they actually provide sources or reference for the contradiction. Most times they actually get quite offended and flip users off or attack them in their own defense. I grow very annoyed of the constant attacks on the developers here. If you cannot say something nice......

The horse is interesting but I do question the practicallity of the ornaments in battle and agree with Banzai (rare case actually) that these are a bit fantastical. I was hoping to be persauded the other way. In the end I just developed a distaste for the RS fans.

Except that in your case, your mod ( which is very nice by the way ) is complete fanatsy and therefore needn't be constantly providing sources etc. to a disgruntled, rejected, beta-tester.

What was the point of this thread? To insult Banzai? Was this through Private messages?

Can't we let this just simmer through, ban banzai from visiting the forums or something. We don't need this kind of hate from both sides in RS. RS is about love and friendship, not sniping and insults!..

More importantly, how is Herodotus considered very accurate now?

Well, "not considered absolute tosh" might be nearer the mark. A lot of historians are finding that quite a bit of what he says is backed up by recent revelations on the period. A fair bit of it is still wrong, though.

I think there's no need for this really and have closed the thread.
