So the question is clear: how to annex a settlement?
Also, how do I declare war via a diplomat?

Please define "annex". Conquer a settlement? Take a settlement via diplomacy? Taking a settlement as part of a peace feal?
For your second question, that's impossible. You just have to lay siege to a settlement, besiege a port or engage one of their armies to declare war.
Sometimes i get an "Annex settlement mision" in the game, and I dont know how to do that![]()

I thought if you were already at war you could demand a city via a peace proposal. Hope my words help.

Oh right. That means you have to send a diplomat to the settlement owner and create a deal which will transfer ownership of the settlement to you without resorting to war. Of course, it's much easier just taking the settlement via siege but then you would fail the "Annex Settlement" mission.
yeah, annex missions means attaining through diplomacy...the "give Region" option....I rarely try to complete, unless my king has crappy authority, then I'll try with a decent diplomat
annex just means "aquire via diplomat" i don't know if it works by just taking it by force, but have a go, just get the settelment any way you can, and post if just takiung it works
Nah, you fail the mission if you use military force to take the settlement, or if another faction takes it first. I usually don't complete those missions, the AI usually wants an arm and a leg for their settlement, it's much easier just to take it with your armies.Originally Posted by Badg3r
The only time I ever annex settlements is if I want just one settlement from a powerful faction, but don't want to wage war to get it. I offer a settlement exchange, and give them one that is on the border of one of my enemies' lands. Then I wait for my enemy to attack them, so I can counterattack and regain control of the settlement.
Another time it is also good to annex is when you are completely overwhelming an enemy. Often you can demand settlements in exchange for peace.
I hope I have shed some light...

The mission gets cancelled which is better than failing it, I think. I never demand settlements because the AI literally wants to cripple your finances for it... the only time you can is when offering a generous ceasefire... but in diplomacy you can't get them to become vassals, even when you have a stack next to their only settlement! Ceasefires with concessions are difficult to get too![]()

As Byzantium I managed to make Venice my vassal without offering concessions other than ceasfire when they had one city and 3 full stacks (my own offensive stack having been crippled in the assault on Ancona). I was quite grateful that they accepted, as a Jihad had just been called on Constantinople several turns earlier, and full stacks from all 5 Muslim nations were making a beeline for my Capital.Originally Posted by M.P.C.U.
