Default The Norwegian military and uniforms from 1890 to 1940.

A collection of pictures and portraits of the Norwegian military from 1890 to 1940.

    1890-1905

    In union with Sweden

    1905-1930

During the dissolution of the union, Norway heavily modernised it's forces for the possibility of a future conflict with Sweden.

    1930-1940

Norway was nautral in WW1 and therfore the army became less prioritised, by the the outbreak of WW2, Norway's army had no tanks, almost no navy and airforce and mostly weapons and equipment from 1890-1905, the training of the conscripted army was also somewhat neglected, so they didn't really stand much of a chance when Nazi Germany invaded, atleast they did show some resistance though.
    Battle of Drøbaksund
    Battle of Hegra Fortress

    Very nice pictures

Some of the uniforms from 1905 and up look a good deal like Danish uniforms from the same time.
