Default Best US president of 20th century and why

I vote Harry Truman.I always admired him.Although i disagree with his option to throw atomic bombs in Japan, the fact is that he reshaped completely US policy towards the world. He managed to control dangerous Stalinist Soviet Union. He created NATO and marshall plan and he showed that he wouldnt hesitate to protect non-communist countries with Korean war.Overall he was a good president.Bill clinton was nice also but he came to power in a period where there was eyforia after the victory against Soviet Union and the Gulf war

Seconded. I also liked Eisenhower, he was pretty good for a guy elected from the military.

Hmm, not really, Teddy was actually the one who prefered a controlled-capitalism (or socialist-capitalism, whatever we call that).

Eisenhower is fine, except he was the one who screwed up West Europe - US relation, although he had good intention.

His foreign policy ultimately forced France to pull out EU.

I liked Andrew Jackson. even if its the Wrong century. only President to eliminate the National Debt.

Eisenhower kick arse. I think all politicians should serve in the military, It eliminates the apathic, and lets them know whats what. So should all voters too.

Andrew Jackson only, you know, threatened the Supreme Court with marshal law when they told him to NOT to start a genocide against Native Americans.

It wasn't genocide it was ethnic cleansing... a slight differance. But they felt it was nessacary due to the frontier wars. Now i don't condone it, but it was differant from hitler genocide of the jews, just to nip that one in the bud. Hitler had no reason to kill.

I agree. Reagan was by far the best president. He showed the Russians who was boss and our economy was saved by Reagan in the 80's.

Ya, I don't quite think Jackson saw the Indians as "people", which is why he violated their treaty and why when the Supreme Court told him he couldn't do that, he told them to shut up and sit down. Real stand up president.

Harding and Coolidge seem pretty clean to me. The rest either built up the militant corporatist state or were pawns to it.

I can't believe no one had said FDR.

Sorry, love him or hate him, you have to be pretty damn good to win 4 elections

A toss between the two Roosevelt's, Truman, and Eisenhower. Out of that I'd say between Teddy and Franklin. In the end I think I have to go with FDR, while he is over-hyped for his actions in the depression I don't think he gets enough credit for his actions and leadership during WWII. I love Teddy, he was a great man and did a lot for the nation and did even more for defining the role of President even further but he never faced anything as trying as FDR did.
