BC 2.0 and MTW 2 Gold Edition

I installed BC 2.0 atop my vanilla (nothing unpacked; game "as is" from the box) MTW2 Gold edition. BC 2.0 crashes on launch. I noticed that BC is designed for the 1.3 version of MTW2. My Gold Edition installs the main campaign as version 1.2 (hotseat campaigns unavailable under the multi-player menu) and the kingdoms as version 1.5.

I figured, the game version (1.2) must be the cause for the BC 2.0 crashes. However, when I tried to run the MTW2 patch that's supposed to update MTW2 from 1.2 to 1.3, the patch installer exited with the message "cannot update 1.3 to 1.3"...

Any suggestions? Anyone else has issues if BC 2.0 is installed atop the MTW2 Gold edition?
