    Default Couple questions

I just reinstalled my game because it was having issues, and now, I am completely missing the preferences.txt file....

Where could it have possibly gone?!

And, the whole reason I reinstalled is because I was having issues with the imperial campaign.
The deal with it is this: I edited the descr_stat, adding a few units to settlements for Germania, Greece, Carthage, Spain, all the Romans (excluding SPQR), and Selucid, while removing units from them for Egypt, Gaul, and Parthia. I also changed the starting denarii for the factions. It would CTD every time.

    Any suggestions?

Final issue isn't really a big thing, just want to know....
Has anyone found a unit add on for Carthage that gives them their Archer, and Scutarii that actually works?
If you have, mind pointing me to it?

    1. Rome - Total War/preferences/preferences.txt
    2. When you mod your game

    a) make a back up of the files you will edit
    b) use -show_err
    c) get familiar with the files you're editing (read a tutorial carefully etc)
    d) edit one thing at a time, go in-game to check if it works, save, edit another thing, check if it works, etc etc

    e) Remove map.rwm if editing files like export_descr_buildings.txt, export_descr_units.txt, etc.

I have been editing the game, with great success.
I am about to start adding units to the game (which is a weak point for me) and I just want to know before, what does deleting the map.rwm do?
    Sorry for the late response.

Let's say map.rwm contains all the data for your campaign . If you make changes to say an image file (map_regions.tga for example) but you keep map.rwm , the game will take a look at your image and your map.rwm files , but it'll see it doesn't match so it'll crash .

In order to regenerate the map.rwm , you must delete it . the game will than make one based on all campaign-related files

May not be correct , but that's how i see it

    Sounds neat....
I don't really edit those kinds of things, though.
I'm more of a unit and starting cities kinda guy.

But, I do have another question.
Any idea why the game wouldn't recognize my preferences document?
I can't shut the banners off, or the arrow indicators. I shut off the advisors, but you can do that from the campaign selection screen, so no big deal. I'm having trouble understanding whats going on there.

No, these are all the basic RTW files.
I've never had the preferences file NOT be read.... weird....

Thanks for the quick reply, btw.
