    Default Rohan campaign

Just completed a campaign as Rohan - had a blast. Based on the battles I fought, I believe that Rohan is probably one of the easier factions to play for a human. Having the powerful cavalry is a huge advantage since the human player can set up successful charges much more easily, it seems, than AI. On the other hand, though, the very fact that Rohan tends to have such powerful units makes blacksmiths less important - what's one extra point of attack when you already got fifty? That's not meant to be a criticism, just my impression. Overall, this is a great mod, my thanks and congratulations to all who put it together. I found it to be pretty much bug-free; I noted only the following glitches:

    1. Upon conquering a city, AI does not demolish barracks or other structures that are useless to it, but that could be useful to the enemy (i.e. me) if the city is recaptured.

    2. In a few battles, my units that were involved in melee would become "frozen," with the melee icon present in their unit card, and would refuse to respond to orders. I noticed that a few of the troops from the unit would always surround a bit of empty space and would look as though they are about to attack whomever's in there, but no enemy was visible in that space.

    3. One of my non-diplomat characters was approached by an enemy diplomat and agreed to a cease-fire. The non-diplo then received a diplomatic trait that helps with bribery. Since a non-diplo cannot bribe, this was useless.

    4. Earthquakes worked OK, but when I had a flash flood in one of my cities, the city name was incorrect on the flash flood pop up screen and the information-only buildings (i.e., what culture the city is, what are the victory conditions etc.) got damaged. This had absolutely no effect on the game, but I thought I'd mention it.

I didn't see a dedicated topic for bugs (sorry if it's somewhere blindingly obvious - I looked through the stickied threads, though) so I put them here.

Again, great, great mod, and I am looking forward to the new version.

Rohan has easy battles as long as it has its cavalry, but it's expensive (Rohan has a tight economy) and can't be produced eeasily outside its homelands. Nonetheless, you have a point, and every single unit stat will be redone from scratch for 3.0, so things will improve.

    1. Upon conquering a city, AI does not demolish barracks or other structures that are useless to it, but that could be useful to the enemy (i.e. me) if the city is recaptured.
    Standard AI behaviour, not mod-specific.

Also not mod-specific, it can happen in vanilla as well, it's a glitch of the game.

    3. One of my non-diplomat characters was approached by an enemy diplomat and agreed to a cease-fire. The non-diplo then received a diplomatic trait that helps with bribery. Since a non-diplo cannot bribe, this was useless.
Can you let us know what the trait is please?

Natural disasters are also screwed up in RTW, again not mod-specific.

Thank you, we are aiming high with 3.0.

I didn't like the battle style with rohan's faction: too much micromanagement with charging and pulling back. Adunabar and RK are my favourites

It's not really a Rohan thing, that's how cavalry works generally... You just don't leave them engaged in melee for long after the charge.

Aradan, the trait you asked about is "Smooth Tongue" giving "5% bonus on bribery attempts." Now that I actually looked it up, it seems that this trait is a rare, but normal "family" rather than "diplomat" trait. I'm guessing that its actual effect is to make the character more likely to be bribed, rather than more likely to successfully bribe others? I guess the description with the word "bonus" threw me off.

Actually, this reminds me of another thing. In my entire campaign, all of my agents, combined, acquired a grand total of one ancillary - one of my assassins got a +1 blade. Is this rarity of items/ancillaries for agents (diplomats, assassins, spies) intended?

Fredericus, Rohan need not involve excessive micromanagement. As Rohan, your initial natural enemy is Dunland. These folks possess virtually no unit that can stop a Rohan cavalry unit's charge. So, all it really takes is proper positioning of all your units (something you'd do with any faction anyway), then proper timing, and then a single order to charge per unit - and the battle is won. Granted, this can get old, but I thought it was fun. I'd imagine that being the Dunmen fighting against Rohan would involve a lot more micromanagement - trying to make sure all your units are in the best possible position to stop or slow down or at least hurt an almost inexorable cavalry advance would be a pain.

Dunlendings get Elite Pikemen and some nifty axemen types though, which are decent vs. cavalry.

By the way, IIRC Harad gets more agent ancillaries as well as better agents in general than the other factions (due to special institutions you can develop in your cities).

yes they do, but there are 2 issues with that:
    1. the AI doesnt use them often enough.
    2. it's very easy to outmaneuver them.

really, even in RTW Vanilla, the AI always has trouble with cavalry, if you dont just charge it into Phalanxes and stuff that is all heavy infantry troops(Spear and Sword alike) can deal with a frontal cavalry charge, however as the cavalry commander you'll obviously go from the sides/rear instead, and the AI just cant handle that therefore it collpases every single time...

in this mod Rohan is the main cavalry nation, hence it's very easy to play and win with. surprised the creators ranked Rohan as "hard" when they should be "easy" but yeah, even in Vanilla the ranking was more for starting position than actual gameplay...

Hm, the the description needs to be better worded, thx for pointing it out. Yes, ancs are intentionally rare for agents.

Rohan has a poor economy, hence the Hard rating. It's not eays to pump out good cavalry units, especially in the WoM campaign. It is very difficult to make all factions sufficiently hard without a script (FATW 3.0 will have a campaign_script that make sure factions are hard enough - or more, I like a hard campaign personally).

There aren't many things to do once your infantry lines are engaged. I actually love it! Too bad I didn't encounter this sooner when MTW was new because no MTW mods really implemented it. Kudos to you RTW modders
