    Default Migrating

Hello to you all, I have been reading this forum for ages now but only felt I should start posting after I failed to see any threads on migrating (stand to b corrected).

I am playing vanilla both RTW and BI (as my comp is made out of mud and sticks so cant really handle anything else). And I have found migrating can make it into an entirely new game. So far I have up rooted the brits for spain, Armenia to Kydonia / Halicarnassus and selcuids to Lepics Magna. All have proved VERY VERY challenging (VH/VH) and have give it a new aspect, as most faction types are grouped together such as greek style in east med, barbarians on the out skirts of the map etc, so by moving you come across different ways to fight/build armies/build citys/diplomacy and is generally a good test of management skills and being adaptable.

FYI the most fun was Armenia on turkish coast/greek islands. I took southern Greece and waited for the marian reforms and then had some great battles V rome. And the sel. V carthage was a laugh, but I was thinking of going to Scilly….just to add to the mix!!!

If your thinking about it I would suggest moving within the first 10 turns and not going crazy with your ‘invasion’ army as you only need to get a foot hold THEN build up for further expansion.

So has anyone else done something similar? If so who went where and how did it turn out?

    I have.
In vanilla, I was struggling in the north as Germania, due to lack of funds.
So, I decided to take all my soldiers, and just head south.
No people in my provinces, guarding my cities.

I went down to Greece, and started hacking away at Macdeon.
The game took an interesting turn.....
I controlled all of Greece, and my old empire was divided between Gaul, Britain, and Julii.

Yes I did something similiar with Pontus in RTR...I dubbed it the 'Pirates of Pontus' episode where I left Asia Minor and headed north to two settlements near the Sarmatians and captured them. Here I slowly built my economy and recruited a handful more troops to add to my existing army and then begun raiding and pillaging all of Asia Minor and the coastal cities of Thrace...here I exterminated everything to get the cash. I then trained another army and headed west, ravaging Dacia, lower half of Germania and into Gaul and then sacked my way to Massilia. I captured that, built some ships, boarded, destroyed Massilia and let it rebel then headed for Caralis. Captured that and then had a bit of fun in launching new raids on Carthage. Easily the most hilarious game I've played...I did write a mini story about it and took some screenies somewhere...may have to upload them.

OMG that was you! Whenever people talk about migration campaigns, I always mention this madman in the old RTR forums who took Pontus to Britain, and then came back south and took the islands in the Mediterranean in a pirate campaign. Some damn good AARs and stories were lost when the forums went down. One of my favourite mini-stories was the Carthaginian player who had nothing with which to defend against a massive Roman multi-stack invasion force building up near Capua, but who was saved by the grace of Baal when Vesuvius erupted, wrecking the Roman forces.

Firstly, welcome to the forum! I agree, they're good fun. I've only done it once, but it was with a horse archer faction so it made it pretty easy when I took them into the barbarian north
Numidia would be a fun option I imagine. Adding that to the increasingly long list of campaigns/mods to try out. Thanks for giving me the idea for something else to try out

It wasn't a full migration, but once as the germanians I had conquered all the way to the black sea. From there I loaded by most badass general named Adivarius the Mad and also 10 units of the most elite cavalry who had tons of experience from battles onto a fleet.

From there I raided and slaughtered the people and destroyed all the buildings every coastal city in greece, and then moved along the mediterranean conquering and destroying cities all the way across the north african coast, past spain and then finally landed back in gaul.

Simply the most awesome thing I have ever seen. Still have the save file.

aaah, this is fun. I wonder if anybody has ever bothered to be Carthage, from Carthage take an army, and without using a boat travel to Corduba ( whatever the Cathaginian settlement in Spain is called ) 30 turns?

I have once done one with Armenia and travelled all the way down to Sicily, not really planned, just don't like the Scipii.

Sounds like a cool idea, something I should try, but I really need to finish my first campaign still... wish I had more time.

Btw, isn't BI the natural platform for migration campaigns given the fact that you can go horde with a number of factions?

Yes, hats the idea. I just don't like Hordes. When I was new to the game and my huns. I captured a rebel settlement and was like

    WHERE ARE MY TROOPS.

But basically, BI isn't a good game, I just hate barbarian factions.

Yah this is a really fun thing to do when you get bored of the average game. I took Carthage to Byzantium, but after awhile it got really easy and I ended up conquering Africa anyways and I took Gaul to Africa... lets say arrows aren't the Gauls best friend and neither is Egypt...

I migrated as the Julii to britain once. That was so fun. I highly recommend migrating as a roman faction, pick a good place to start anew, then once you get a town there, tear down all the buildings from your old towns and take your troops out so they rebel.
I think migrating scipii to armenia would be quite fun.

Hmmm, this sounds interesting, I've been playing ETW for a while now, but I might try RTW again and see what I can do.
