The hardest Total War Game
Hey sorry if this has been posted before, i did a quick search and couldn't find anything
Ok it's been about 5 years since i played a total war game and i loved the game however i found the AI too stupid and all the battles got a bit repetative.
Can someone answer me this?
Which Total War game out now has the most difficult AI? i basically DON"T want to be able to beat the game on extremely hard difficulty. The last game i played was Rome Total War for a few months but like i said, a bit boorish as all the fights seemed the same.
Anyways, Can someone tell me which is the hardest Total War game out there to beat. i want a bit of a challenge. Or is there a mod or something i can download to smarten them up a bit
Regards
Dan

Re: The hardest Total War Game
Kingdoms I guess, most of the countries there were still easy to win with, But it was a wee bit harder with most of them overall (Some in RTW were a major pain in the ass to win with though)

Re: The hardest Total War Game
In my opinion, RTW: BI and perhaps Alexander were by far the hardest of the Total War games. BI introduced shadow factions in an impressive way, so the Western Roman Empire is a play experience like hasn't really been replicated. Alexander on the other hand simply has a difficult premise.
This thread however belongs somewhere else, since it doesn't involve modding. It looks like we really need a "General TW Discussion" board or something, because there's been a lot of non-platform specific threads popping up here lately.

Re: The hardest Total War Game
Perhaps the hardest mod I've played would be 'The Crusades' on RTW, hardest because of the recruitment system they implemented and the fact your starting position as the Crusaders is already on the verge of defeat. It's really a mod for the RTW purist though since you need the patience of a saint to wait 8-9 turns to recruit the elite units.
Mods with a reduced faction pool tend to preform better on the campaign, the AI seems to have less to think about so does some pretty unusual things, like landing invasion armies by sea on shores far from home, something the vanilla game never did.
Mods built on the Alexander platform are pretty difficult battle wise since the AI is performs the best of all the TW games. Imo anyway.

I remember Europa Barbarorum being a severe wake-up call. Deep in the red in two turns, battles were long and costly, Gauls didn't suck, etc.

Re: The hardest Total War Game
I agree that the Crusades (by Caius) was very hard. I'd also suggest Imperator II: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54640
