    Default Numidian Cavalry

Feared and respected around the mediterranean in the time of Hannibal Barca. But really, how will these elite skirmishers be represented in RS 2?
Playing RS1.5 mounted javelin men usually have aproximatly the same missile attack value as skirmishers on foot.
I didnt pay any attention to this before playing RTR The Iberian Conflict. But playing TIC where the value was doubbled got me thinking, maybe the throw itself where a little more... Harder if you got the speed from the gallop timed with the throw. I think there was some physics rule that determined that the faster a object was moving the more enegy it would gather up untill impact.
Take forexample car crashes., if you have a bottle of water in the back of the car and come to a quick stop or crash the bottle will fly out the front window with an energy of X kilos if not going through your skull on the way out.
I guess i'm trying to ask for Hannibals Elite Cavalry and any other mounted javeliners to have a little bit more to say in the battles. And please make them a little more availible for Carthage than in RS 1.5 make them become recruitable sooner than elite stables please because historically there wherent lack of them in Carthaginian armys of that era.
Oh and if they could be able to hide in long grass as in TIC that would be aaaawesome Sorry i'm just such a Carthage Fan and I want to use my numidian cav to force rome to its knees!!!

The thing is that these skirmishers may be moving towards, away or in a path of constant distance away from their target. I don't think RTW can tell the difference.

Also, kilos is not a unit of energy.

I am aware of the first issue but its not that hard to see what I mean, when people in the olympics throw spears they sprint first. It should work by the same logic?
I know kilo's not an energy unit, its hard to come across the language barrier on this one. What I am trying to say is that if you have one object of lets say 1kg moving in ..50(or more) kmph or mph the objects impact would be a whole lot more than say 5 kmph or mph.(taking a little leap before throwing something) And I wrote the example of a carcrash where the same principles should apply. So you should have known what I meant. The damage with speed is greater than without I dont think there is anyway around that.
And besides even in a Cantabrian Circle there should be enough speed in itself to deliver more damage. But offcourse the RTW engine cant read that moving units will get a bonus of damage...Except for charge bonus, there is no such thing in RTW thats why they simply add more damage to the missile attacks, duh.

It's a good thought about giving them a slightly higher missile attack....at the moment their main benefit is that they are very hardy and are more resistant to tiring, but an extra hitpoint with the javelin would be good....I've yet to update the model for them from 1.5 - do you have any good info / pics (also regarding the Roman auxiliary version of them)?

I've realised now that the unit we called Numidian noble cavalry should in fact be the Libyphoenician cavalry on the basis of historical descriptions and a North African figurine which depicts a bare-headed cavalryman wearing a hellenic muscled cuirass and carrying two light spears or javelins and a round shield with rounded boss and raised rim and is thought to be Liby-Phoenician.

I must confess to a fondness for Numidian light cavalry in my Roman armies. I recruit them as soon as I can. Great for chasing down fleeing units and making a general nuisance of themselves on the flanks. Bit of a taste of their own medicine for those dirty baby-eating ne'er do wells.

They're represented in their totally native form on Trajan's column - practically identical to the soldiers that fought under Hannibal and Scipio.

Note riding 'bareback' & no harnessing other than simple 'neckstrap'. The author states that the diminutive size of the horses is exagerated, although they would have been no bigger than modern ponies.

Tone,I think the first picture in Mr_Fluffy's post is a nice numidian cavalry.

Altough you can change the numidian noble's name to lybi'phoenician cavalry,....it's OK for me.

Here are some other pictures of numidians:

I guess the crude way of doing it would be to incease mounted skrimishers attack. Maybe having an inceased in attack in realation to thier experiance that is higher than thier foot counterparts as well. I feel that is one of the big this that could be work on is bad troops with exp should beable to hold against raw troops with no exp making exp armies alot more important then they currently are.
