    Default Settlement Research

Since romy, our fellow dots fan has decided to help the dots team with custom cities, i find it only fair to help him out with any historical city maps and data that we may find. This is a map of constantinople dating to 1422 by the Florentine cartographer cristoforo buendolmonte, it's not exactly the starting period but most public buildings in constantinople did not change and it at least gives us a clear picture of the extent of constantinople, and in context with pictures of the ruins left of the ancient city can give a more complete picture

I'd like to make an official request, since your research and work here overlaps with our work for the campaign map.
Currently Resurrection (Head Mapper) has decided that all cities that were placed on river banks such as London and Paris will have a secondary control point or PSF on the other side of the bank.

What we need to know is what side of the bank the PSF should be, and whether it should be a castle, town, city or village.

Well I'm just glad that finally somebody cares about those cloned settlements because I'm too lazy for that! If you need more research just feel free to ask.

    Ooooh yeaaaah!

But even if it was possible to build them in-game it would be quite unfair because the attacker would need at least several armies to take them and had no choice but attacking from the land-site, not sea-site like the crusaders in 1204.

I think it would be nice if the smaller part was represented by a PSF and the bigger part was the city and then you could do what the crusaders did

and that's exactly what we want...!!
historically Constaninople was the hardest city in the world to conquer.. the Sassanid besieged it and failed in the 7th century, and the Arabs were forced to lift the siege twice.

so giving byzantium her formidable defenses will be very challenging for both the CPU player and the human player.

yeah whats the problem? then the enemy needs to build several armies before attacking... thats why they had a triple wall lol

"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

When I saw Romy's three cities, I decided to try out the editor by myself. I'll admit that the following city, Tripoli, is certainly not excellent, and it is not original at all, but...it is my first time? Tripoli isn't complete yet -- I still need to add a river to the city. That's something I really need help with, though, so if anyone could post directions, they would be appreciated.

This post probably shouldn't be in this thread, but I didn't want to make another thread just for this experiment...

    Feedback is appreciated.

    message from Flogi :
    "Hey.
Making water at those maps is indeed quite tricky.
It seems that the editor is only able to show ground water, which means you'll have to lower the terrain until you reach it.
The Problem is on a high terrain it looks really if you have to lower it ~200 meters.
The key so solve this problem is at the beginning, when you choose where exactly you want your map created.
If you have a map with much water or if you want to include a river you'll need to either use a point at the map which is near a river or a point where the terrain is very very low e.g. ~50 m.
I hope i could help you.
If you need more help, feel free to ask.
