Default I'm having alot more fun playing M2: TW

I'm not sure if anyone here is in the same boat as me, but I purchased Empire the day it came out and have a high end gaming machine (I play on ultra high settings). Empire only held my attention for a week and afterward I only played it once in a great great while (after the occurrence of a patch, or out of boredom).

To me the fun factor seems to be a lot greater in the older games such as R:TW and M2: TW. They have many great mods, a less complicated campaign, they don't have game breaking bugs. It is my personal beliefe that the combat in ETW seems downright boring. I personally find organizing swords, spears, and bows trying to defend a castle way more interesting then watching the same clone line infantry take pot shots at each other... with the occasional artillery and calvary charge, on the same flat open space maps.

Has anyone else recently went back to the older games and realized how much more fun they are?

Yea actually, I went back to play Med II and Rome, and the experience was much better. Granted they were all nice and patched, well, ETW has been patched thrice, and they have barely fixed anything and brought more woes with them.

So, you made this thread to let us know that you prefer the Medieval period to the 18th century? Are we supposed to care? Or is the lack of swords, knights and castles in the 1700s somehow CAs fault?

No, what he said was that the previous game before Empire was better than Empire.

Well I like Empire just as much as Medieval. But Im probably biased, big history fan and all that stuff. Never got bored of it. Though I did get bored of Medieval 2 when I first got it and stopped playing it after a week. But ages later I really got into it, so let that be a leason for you.

I seem to have misread the post, my fault. Sorry Tim.

I still play BC and SS mods for MTW2 and EB for RTW and the city battles are much better than in ETW. However with the masses of reskin mods and other gameplay mods I do enjoy ETW now. There are still some problems but hardly game breaking.

This thread is not about general modding, mod discussion or mod resources and should be moved to the general discussion (game, not modding) forums.

This forum has so many wrongly-posted threads. Can people please read before posting / moving

I was just starting a discussion about how I think the older games are funner than empire... hence why I posted it in the empire forum.

I was just wondering if anyone shared the same experience as me. I don't see why it needed to be moved.

I agree. I still play Medieval 2, more than Empire actually. The reasons are.. well.. Empire is still broken.
I have tried to get started with empire again, after each of the patches(the last performance-fix actually made it playable too) - but it never get's fixed enough for me to digg it.

There are still so many retarded AI-actions, and random ctds that make me hate this game.
Like when I spend nearly 40minutes in a single battle, beeing besieged by a large Polish army and their anger-issue Courland allies, and I manage - by carefully micromanaging - to defeat both armies, using only firelock militia

.. and then, the game decides to CTD as I chase down the last routers.. ARGH!! And it's not like that's the first time either. And that, is one of the (too)many things that makes this game "not fun".
