I was just reading about siege warfare and I got to wondering what was the longest siege in history? I have heard of some that have lasted 4-5 years, but I was wondering is there anything out there longer?
Troy, 10 years. But it wasn't continuous (sp?). They pretty much left ever winter and usually left to find supplies up and down the coast for a long time.
My bad, the Siege of Candia was longer, lasting from 1648 until 1669.

Forget the Cod this man needs a Sturgeon!
Siege of Candia (Crete, Iraklion). 1648-1669. Defenders : Venitians. Attackers : Turks. Victors Turks.
It's not Troy (we're not sure though... should be 10 years but there's little evidence, and it wasn't permanent), but
the Siege of Crandia was 21 years, as CiviC said, but the Siege of Centa lasted 26 - from 1674 to 1700

Siege of Crete lasted 26 years if I remember correctly
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

Leningrad siege was the bloodiest siege in history.

Leningrad siege was the bloodiest siege in history.
In what terms?
There were almost no combats for Leningrad - only artillery fire and hunger inside the city. So if it comes to civilian deaths - yes, it was bloody.
If it comes to military deaths - no, it wasn't blooody (especially on the German side).
define bloody then...
Optio, Legio I Latina
Yeah guys, he said longest... and pannonius, it WAS just explained, he said that it was in civilian terms but not for the military. Simple enough.

He is not asking the bloodiest.
