    Default Suggestion for RS2

    First of all, Great mod!

    Like the title says,
There should be an option during installation if we want the 3 families of Rome to be playable. I like playing RTW with more of an RPG kind of game play with the members of the family being in the Senate and all.

    Cheers!

The problem is that it is totally ahistorical. This is a mod that aims to be as historical as possible when the game starts. The rest is up to you. You can make your own history.
Although it might be fun competing with 2 other Roman factions sometimes, the amount of time that the team would need to do that would be too much.
Besides they don't even have place for 2 or 3 other factions because they implemented new ones. And they certainly don't have the place for more units.

Yeah, they need those two faction slots for other factions. If they did have an option for four Roman factions, they would just make another campaign. Not an instal option. I think Darthmod has alot of campaign choices if you are looking.

That is not possible at all. However, your characters will be able to get into the senate and have magistracies, rise in the army and plenty of other things too.

Technically, you will be able to compete against other Romans, as there will be rebellions, revolutions, government changes and things like that. Which is much more realistic (IMHO) than to have four separate factions, as if they were a different kind of people.

I see. Thanks for the replies. I will then continue my campaign. I actually wonder when will I be able to recruit archers. (I read it was 3rd tier troops) How do I get them?

Get Imperial legions and have the right cities (closest ones to Roma are Patavium and Mediolanum I think), or hire mercenary archers if available and that depends where you are fighting I guess.

Take some cities in Asia Minor like.. Ephesus or Halicarnassus preferably the latter. And you will be able to hire the best Archers in the game.. Syrians.. Regardless if its pre marian reforms. But when the reforms come.. I think the Archers gets replaced by Syrian Auxilia Archers.

If you haven't pass the marian reforms yet hire the mercenaries: Barbarian Archers are available throughout the Balkans, Syrian Archers (they are masters of archery ) are available to recruit in Lysimacheia (near Byzantium), Asia Minor and further east or can be hired as mercenaries in the eastern part of the map.

Sorry. Big noob at 12 o'clock. Anyway, thanks again for the replies. I hardly hire mercenary units because of their inability to be retrained once their numbers become low. But I guess for now I'll hire those. Thanks again!

Hire them, when their number become non-viable, disband and hire some more until you can recruit your own archers. I found slingers to be excellent too, I have a feeling that they may actually be more effective against phalanxes than archers anyway, but I've only had a couple of battles as the Iberians in another campaign to be too confident of that statement. You can usually hire peltasts too, not as effective as archers but they do a job.

Archers are very effective against Levy pikemen, but they do far less damage to better phalanxes. Then it's legionaries work: throw pillas, charge when phalanx is moving and encircle them.

I know on the Darth Mod there was a way to have a unified Rome and senate missions still available in the campaign i dunno how it was done, but seems cool, however i guess Rebellions and Government changes is good enough to keep us entertained.

I hate phalanxes. I can never seem to use them right.

this topic reminded me, of how i always liked that big civil war that the end of a vannila campain, anyway i was wondering if it's possible to have a script that says when x settlements and x # of settlements are taken thenx provinces rise up with x units ? it could have a shadow roman faction that rises up(you would replace the extra rebels with this faction). i was thinking it could be one of those scripts that run once you click endturn

Not to go into details but we are working on something like this, but much more sophisticated and hopefully more difficult to handle for the player. And the best part is that we don't need to remove the free people.

So I should start building my empire to the east. I guess I'll have to surrender Carthage to the Carthaginians again.. was about to lose it from rebels anyway . Thanks again for the replies.

Barbarian Mercenaries are onyl 1-2 points worse than Syrians and you can easily hire them. Just put a general on a boat, send him over the Adriatic Sea, hire archers (max is 2 units at a time) and return to Italy the same turn. Repeat it every few turns and there you go, you have enough archers for 3-4 armies. Also there are Cretian Archers (I believe they can be hired also on Greek mainland, not only on Crete).
