Well done...I have to say I have never been challenged so much in any RTW modification. Franks, lazyges, those blasted Roman rebels, Sassanids, Goths, Quadi...all beating down at my door. This is just so hard but also a great challenge at the same time. Its my favourite time period. I've had a few CTD's...rather random ones at that but I've had a look through the CTD thread and all that. It's no big dramas, they are all manageable.
In my current save, I've been thrashed by the Franks who have captured all of my German territory, had the Romanum rebels steal the other half of Gaul, nearly all of Britian save Londinium, part of Africa, Alexandria and Thebes and Corsica. I haven't been troubled too much by the Sassanids who have been rather quiet save the odd sorty. I've subdued the lazyges after capturing their capital city thanks to the heroics of Julianus. They are now confined to another province and their last stack lurks outside Sirmium but does nothing. Julianus and his successor managed to destroy four Ostrogoth armies then destroyed the Quadi in another battle. The Visigoths have raided all along Thrace and into Macedonia but haven't done any damage and they just hang arcross the river near their land.
Biggest problem has been the Alamanni who have exterminated their way through Italy and I drove off a large stack near Rome using my (some 1500 against 3500) light palatine troops and equite promoti (can't beat a bridge battle to sucker the AI in to and due to cost constraints my lighter troops are going to have to do the heavy work) and am preparing to send said army to recapture Arretium or what ever its called. Thankfully there is a large heavily armed stack with seige onagers on its way (the original garrison of Antioch) through Illyria as the Alammani are seiging Aquilia. On top of this is Julianus back at Constantinople fetching a new army to assist in the recovery of Italy. I have every confidence I can drive them back beyond the Alps. As the Franks are quiet, the Romanum rebels not doing a great deal and the Sassanids quiet, recovering Italy is my priority. Unfortunately I am sliding back into the red so I need some success soon. Ooooh boy what a save...all the makings for an awesome story
