    Default This Mod rules..

Well done...I have to say I have never been challenged so much in any RTW modification. Franks, lazyges, those blasted Roman rebels, Sassanids, Goths, Quadi...all beating down at my door. This is just so hard but also a great challenge at the same time. Its my favourite time period. I've had a few CTD's...rather random ones at that but I've had a look through the CTD thread and all that. It's no big dramas, they are all manageable.

In my current save, I've been thrashed by the Franks who have captured all of my German territory, had the Romanum rebels steal the other half of Gaul, nearly all of Britian save Londinium, part of Africa, Alexandria and Thebes and Corsica. I haven't been troubled too much by the Sassanids who have been rather quiet save the odd sorty. I've subdued the lazyges after capturing their capital city thanks to the heroics of Julianus. They are now confined to another province and their last stack lurks outside Sirmium but does nothing. Julianus and his successor managed to destroy four Ostrogoth armies then destroyed the Quadi in another battle. The Visigoths have raided all along Thrace and into Macedonia but haven't done any damage and they just hang arcross the river near their land.

Biggest problem has been the Alamanni who have exterminated their way through Italy and I drove off a large stack near Rome using my (some 1500 against 3500) light palatine troops and equite promoti (can't beat a bridge battle to sucker the AI in to and due to cost constraints my lighter troops are going to have to do the heavy work) and am preparing to send said army to recapture Arretium or what ever its called. Thankfully there is a large heavily armed stack with seige onagers on its way (the original garrison of Antioch) through Illyria as the Alammani are seiging Aquilia. On top of this is Julianus back at Constantinople fetching a new army to assist in the recovery of Italy. I have every confidence I can drive them back beyond the Alps. As the Franks are quiet, the Romanum rebels not doing a great deal and the Sassanids quiet, recovering Italy is my priority. Unfortunately I am sliding back into the red so I need some success soon. Ooooh boy what a save...all the makings for an awesome story

Hi, about those CTD's, how often did you get them?

Quite often, as in I'd load a save and it would crash, it would crash going into battles or just finishing them, crash between turns...but since it was the first version of the beta (which I downloaded by mistake) not the new one, I hardly see them anymore. The current beta plays fine for me.

One man against the Victorian hordes of destruction!

Just a question for those who play the game...how badly have you fallen into debt before you've started to recover your finances? I've blown out to 800K in the red, though the losses each turn have dropped by half now, still around 25K I think per turn...I suspect if I ever break even its going to be forever before I whittle it down to postitive territory

Oh yes, debt for both Julianus factions for the 355AD and the 361AD campaigns can get pretty high, but over time as you start to either take back territory or conquor new territory you should see the finances come back into the black. SeniorBatavianHorse has seemed to have done this with his 361AD campaign.

The add on 355AD script also assists the Julianus faction if you want to try it.

Yes, I am somewhere around 372ad I think - and have been making an average of 20-30k per turn since at least 368. I was lucky in that the Franks so far have not breached the limes across the Rhine - all provinces except one in Africa are back under control and the war with Persia is pretty much a stalemate at the moment. The first 10 turns were spent in looting any towns I captured from the barbarians - Picts, Quadi, Alemanni - the last 2 factions destroyed - and also looting any Roman rebelling towns which had Christian roots. I dropped down to about - 90,000 I think before it turned around.

Who actually has installed the add-on? It occurs to me that may be the cause of all the compatability problems we've had!

Again, that is why you should have separate install for online battles which contains only the official installs and latest patches.

So no-one else was using the add-on? damn... sorry about that. Shame... I'm probably going to have to redownload the whole lot, because my memory stick corrupted itself! Either that or find those disks with it on.

Sorry for making the whole campaign go wrong

EDIT: wait, that's not right. I had a multiplayer with JH and it worked even though I was using the add-on.

I am just wondering whether anyone has played as any of the barbarian factions or are we all obsessed with rescuing the Empire?

I decided to rest my Julianus save and AAR for a moment and try out the Quadi. Its proving to be rather interesting. I left my starting provinces and horded south, two stacks ravaging Italy and the rest nearly wiping out Roman rule in the Balkans and Greece (I think I may have killed Julianus in one of the seiges!) I decided to settle in Athens and Corinth, one of my stacks took Ravenna, which proved to be a mistake as my 'allies' the Alemanni (who took Mediolanium and Verona) attacked my newly acquired Roman general near Verona and I lost Ravenna after a bit of a muck up with my forces. That rebelled back to the Romans and their large stack killed my faction leader, two other generals and some awesome beserkers and axemen.

I went back with another army and claimed Constantinople..now I can pump out some seriously awesome armoured troops. I had one stack ravaging Asia Minor up towards Sinope but as I went to reclaim Nicomedia I was trapped by a Roman force in the hills and met an untimely end. So at least now I am making some decent coin and have begun training some Alan cavalry and other bits and peices to retake Larissa and all that. Still, the Romans have a couple of sizeable stacks nearby so this should be interesting
