Whay can't I get SS to work?

I signed up to post this because the mod looks awesome but I just can't get it to work.

I have downloaded everything and moved them into the MTW2 folder and installed the 6.1 patch but as soon as I click on the "Stainless Steel" option to play the game it goes to the black screen then to what I assume is the loading screen after that then crashes. The new loading screen stays on for a second then it just crashes to the desktop.

I'm running on Vista and I did look at the thread about "Problems running SS on Vista" but I only tried the first one and it didn't help at all.

Help please?

Did you actually install SS 6.0 part1 and part 2 or just move the two files to the M2TW folder?

You did install both part 1 and 2 right? I had the same problem myself untill I relised I had forgotten to download part 2. Besides that I got nothing.

But I'm still having the same problem and I definitely installed both parts 1 and 2 as well as the patch. I really want to play the SS mod. I love the TW series but I find vanilla M2TW far too unchallenging. Can anyone help?

Try reinstalling all 3 parts again over the top of your current installation. Sometimes the installer can miss files. Also if you are running Vista, turn off UAC. Check the Vista FAQ thread stickied at the top of this forum.

Caesar Clivus, thanks for the tips. I have re-installed all three parts again (in fact, I did it three times). I still cannot get past the initial screen.

By the way, I don't run Vista. I use an XP system that I purchased specifically to run TW games, including the original MTW, RTW and M2TW. All of those run great on my XP system.

But I can't get the SS mod to run. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Triarri, sounds like you and I are having the same problem. M2TW and Kingdoms both work fine on my XP system, which I purchased explicitly for the purpose of getting good performance with TW games, such as, the original MTW. But I can't get the SS 6.1 mod to work. I get CTD within a few seconds of the initial SS 6.1 screen loading.

Do I need to install SS 6.0 first? If anyone can help or advise I will be most grateful.

Once I get a solution, I will confirm it and then post it in a new thread because I'm noticing that alot of players who would like to give SS a try are having teh same problem.

Are both your games retail? Or are they digital downloads? or are they illegal pirate downloads?

Yes you do. 6.1 is only a patch. That's why in the first post of the release thead it says under installation instructions:

Install Part1, Part2 and the 6.1 Patchinto the default Medievall II Total War directory

Caesar, I mis-spoke in my previous post. I did indeed install SS 6.0 parts 1 and 2 and then the 6.1 patch. I was momentarily confused. My apologies. So I'm still unable to run SS 6.0 with the 6.1 patch.

Wizav85, yes, I have the Kingdoms expansion and both my Kingdoms and my M2TW are retail (from Best Buy) with CDs and lovely, colorful, picturesque cases.

It's frustrating that the SS mod won't run for me. Reading about it on the forum makes me really want to play it.

Reinstall all 3 parts of SS (6.0 part 1, part 2 and 6.1) over the top of your current installation. Sometimes the installer can miss some files. If it still doesn't work, go into M2TW\logs and post here the last few lines of your system.log.txt file.

Caesar, thanks for your continuing help. I will do as you suggest and report the results here tomorrow. In the meantime, I can tell you I did re-install parts 1 and 2 and the 6.1 patch (and I'll do that again) and I recorded my system log file. It is as follows:

Well it tells me where the error is, but not why it's happening.

You've already said you're running XP, so it's not a vista problem. . Have you unpacked your copy of M2TW at all?

Perhaps try installing the 6.2 patch (in the submods forum).

When you installed 6.1 patch which boxes did you tick?

You might have accidently ticked both the byg option and supply trait removal option maybe thats whats causing the error?

You can install SS straight from the box (Kingdoms patch 1.3), though there's no real reason not to update to the latest patch.
