    Saddam in '86, wasn't it?

It was headed by Ali Hassan Abd al-Majid al-Tikritieh though. Edit: He has three death sentences on his head right now.

    You mean the Iraq-Iran war?
Ultimately it was Saddam, but it was Chemical Ali who got the rep points for it.

The British, if I remember correctly they put down a Kurdish revolt in 1917 with chem tipped artillery shells.

    edit: 1920, not 1917.

But that's a totaly different thing. They're the good guys, and Saddam was a bad guy and that means he's not allowed to kill Kurdes.

He's not allowed? Noone seemed to mind a great deal back then. Apart from some very, very disturbing images on TV, a few fancy speeches and a bit of public condemnation noone gave a toss. He was a friend, remember? So I'd say it's the opposite, he most certainly was allowed.

Not to mention that one of the first few roles the RAF had outside the European front of WW1 was strafing Iraqi villages in search of "rebels" to cut down on the number of ground troops needed

Ultimately the attacks benefitted Iran the most though. It allowed them to declare Jihad on the Iraqis since they had "digressed" from the right path of Islam.
