    Default RS 2 In Spanish

Hello everyone, I'm not sure this is the right place to post this. If not, please move it to the right place.
There is a Spanish website about RTW, BI and their mods. Roma Surrectum is one of the favourites there. Not all of the users of that site speak English and because of that, they had problems trying to play the mod. A group of them worked on an unofficial Spanish translation of the 1.5 version and put it at disposal of those interested in DL it. Currently, they've stopped working on it as RS 2 is coming. They have been talking, however, of how cool it'd be to have a Spanish version of the mod so the Spanish-speaking fans can enjoy it, too. I asked them if there are many people interested in that, and apparently there is a big group interested. My idea is that you have a hell of a mod here and it's a pity that a large group of people won't be DLing and playing it because of the language barrier, even though they find the mod very appealing. What if you offer an official Spanish version backed up by the RS Team? I'm offering to contact all those interested in the Spanish site and recruit people to work on an official translation. To back up my own candidacy for this task, allow me to use as an argument my experience at teaching Spanish and doing translations and interpretations into Spanish for the last 10 years. If you're interested and think of this as a good idea, just let me know.

The idea is good but I'm afraid we're opening a can of worms here, everybody will wait for us to release a french, german, italian, mandarin and so on versions. While it would be awesome to give our fans multiple language options I prefer to focus on the English version first and get it out there once and for all he he he then after we can take care of some translations.

    Agreed!
Everyone knows English today (at least understand it). And if someone wants to play RS2 and doesn´t know/speak English, learn it.

I agree. Everyone who posts/lurks on this board can understand or at least comprehend English well enough to partake in discussions so should have no problem playing the game. There may be a few Italians (or whoever) that get wind of this and bring attention to it on another language forum but that's a small number. I think we should just focus on getting this out. Translations and stuff can come later...

Yes, sure. I can forget about this, I'm not marries to this idea anyway. However, I'd like to clarify that the RS Team as a whole wouldn't have to do anything at all but endorse the project. The idea was that I and the potential sub-team recruited by me would do the work. If someone asks for RS2 in his own language, he should do all of the work too. Basically my idea was to have a Spanish version available without increasing the team's workload at all, with my guarantee of a good final product. But as I said, it's just an idea .
BTW, the Spanish site I was referring to is not this one but a different one only in Spanish. here is the link:

If it's just about endorsing the project then everything is fine I don't see why not

OK, then. Since yesterday, I've been doing a deeper research on this type of work, and it's a lot of it. I was hoping you guys would discourage me now but I guess it didn't work . Oh well, time to take responsibility for my big mouth . I'll contact some people in that site and recruit a team. We'll have to wait though until you guys are done so we can have all of the texts to be translated.

A french translation of RS 1.5 is nearly done, and I think once RS2 is out, a team will work on it as well. So their will be a french translation. Just so you know about it.

I don't know where you are from Pacco, but I can tell you that we French are really bad at learning languages, and on french forum there are a lot of guys who are asking for translations, so I don't believe it useless.

I´m from Bosnia... then we need translation for South Slavic languages too?
    Come on man...
I think the main problem is that French and Spaniards don´t like this: English is the dominant language in the world.
    My opinion...

Yep, both sentences are absolutely right. We, Spanish and French speakers, are too in love with our languages and really stubborn in terms of learning other ones. Perhaps, that'll change some day.

A French translation, too! Cool! This won't be a mod only but more like an original game with multiple languages versions.

What I mean is if there are guys who want to do it, then it can actually be usefull.
So if there Bosnians who wants to do a translation, where's the problem?
I just wanted to say that a french will be done when RS2 is realeased, as a spanish one will be.
The more the better, I believe; and with no work from the team, everyone is happy.

Off-topic : You're right about french not liking that english is the dominant language. Most of the french are still complaining that Louis 14 should not have sell a good part of the french colonies in America. And also, there is a law which says that radios must a least play 40% of french music, it is called the french exeption.

I hate to bring it on but the one who sold Louisiana was Napoleon not Louis

How would an English speaker feel if he was forced to learn French to play a game?

It's a known fact that countries that has a large population tends to have a population that knows less language than small countries.
Living in a small country like Sweden for an example, you need to learn the english language as all movies are in english, many games and a huge amount of music to.
Larger countries tends to dub movies etc. which makes it less likely that the population tries learn english.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle... for smaller countries like Sweden, Romania for example, nobody bother to translate any OS or other software from English to local languages so you were more exposed and used with seeing English on the screen in front of you. The matter is different with French, Spanish and other big nations, they had everything translated even the keyboards are different so I understand them asking for translations.

I had at one point in time a romanian version of MSOffice, funny thing is I got rid of it immediately as I couldn't figure out the menus ha ha ha ha
