Default [HoI3] Alliances and wars? confooosed :(

    Hey all,

So far i love this game - however i've got a lot of confusions about alliances and wars.

firstly, i was playing romania, noticed that there was a massive red army on my border so i thought i'd join the reds and suck up to the USSR. so i aligned myself to comintern (about two iterations) and i still can't join the faction. something to do with difference between neutrality and highest threat. i don't udnerstand this, nor the purpose behind it - do the faction leaders only invite people when desperate?

secondly, i try to make non-agression pacts with a couple of neighbours and i get no announcement if it's been accepted or declined

thirdly, how long does it take in order to declare war on neighbouring countries? i thought it would be nice to bully hungary but i can't seem to show any threat. i mobilized, lowered my neutrality with spies and increased their threat and it's moving at tiny rate. is there a quicker option?

    thanks

    1. Eventually you can join Comintern when you are close enough to USSR. Generally, it is harder for different ideological countries to join another faction, but when the influence is close enough (lets say, like 20 to 10), they would accept your application.

    2. Non-aggressive pact is a waste and I never see anyone accept it before.

    3. While, it takes a painful way to do that; the basic requirement is that their threat has been +10 more than your neutrality, so it would probably happen when it is... 1945??

Hence the quickest way is to declare war on Germany, which get like 100+ threat in 1939.

why does it take ten years to declare war neighbouring countries other than germany? surely it should just be a matter of mobilising men, preparing people for war and then stepping your soldiers in their land?

As I said before, in order to declare war on a country the threat of that country has been 10+ higher than your neutrality, no other way round.

You can mobile whenever you want but you cannot declare war.

I'm not positive on why they added this into the game, I'm not sure exactly what it's meant to represent historically nor what it's meant to do game play wise but it's not a major hurdle to overcome. At the start of your game simply begin lowering your neutrality and raising the threat of the nation you plan of going to war with first as well as tossing an embargo on them and mobilizing your forces. Depending on your nation it shouldn't take you more then a year to have the ability to declare war on an opponent, and once you declare war on one your threat will be high enough to declare war on almost anyone.

didn't think about embargo hmm .....only takes a year? that makes me feel more optimistic....sometimes it felt twenty.... and i wasnt aware that your threat level stays really high after war - does the same apply to nationalist spain after it beats the republic or vice versa?

    cheers
