    Default New to SS

Hi, Apologies I know there will have been a few of these before but after some searching I didn't find what I was looking for.

I have played all the TW games since Shogun but have never played a MOD until I downloaded LTC to help fix the many issues with vanilla MTW2. I want to try SS but I have a few questions.

Does a bigger map with more regions mean the game takes longer to complete?
If one turn is one and a half years, when does winter come?
Are there some key differences from vanilla which its useful to know before you play?
(beyond key features listed and unit/buildings list on Honga net)

    Thanks

One good thing to know is diplomacy is much better than it is in vanilla. I believe every turn brings a different season, but I am not one hundred percent sure on that one.

Because of the larger map, the game extends the turns by one hundred, I do believe. Good luck.

One key difference is the supply traits. Armies led by a general in the field will lose supplies every turn. Low supplies = low morale

And I'm pretty sure summer and winter still alternate

It does and you should also be aware that time between turns takes longer due to the number of factions, events and notifications. So you should have a reasonable PC, but the game is worth the bit of extra time between the turns.

    1. Yes, of course.
    2. Every second turn I think.
    3.
    -alliances are strong now
-castle upgrades won't allow you to train any units as Vanilla did; you must build Stables and Barracks
    -there are no Americas
-archers are a lot less effective
-cavalry is not as effective as in Vanilla; however, their charge is more powerful and they are more expensive
-do not play with Ireland unless you want to expand really slowly

I add something if I remember later.

Good luck with SS! It's awesome.

Thanks for the replies everyone, couple more questions if I may..
Finnking - are Archers still worth recruiting? (were they overpowered in vanilla?)
    and
Is it possible to disable any of the non-vanilla features such as army supply affecting morale?

Supply trait and other complicated stuff are part of BGR mod ( Byg Grim Reality). I never favoured it either despite being SS fan. You should be able to de-select this mod when installing SS. But if you want to install RR-RC (which I recommend) on top of SS it may be troublesome to exclude BGR mod from RR-RC. Latest version of RR-RC appears to keep BGR inside despite recommended manipulations to skip BGR. Good thing an update of RR-RC is coming any day soon. Hoping for better.

Wrong, in the newest compilation you have a few additional folders 'with/without BGR' so you can choose freely.
However, when it comes to the supply trait system I believe it has become a common feature of RR/RC and BGR (even if playing without BGR you get a message at the beginning stating about supply traits).
I suppose there was a way to remove the supply traits from the game, pretty sure I came across it once while browsing the forum.

    1. Of course, because there are no other troops who can do their job. (btw their missile attack could be very easily edited)
    2. Yes, remove these lines from export_descr_character_traits (you can search it by going to M2TW directory and then pressing Ctrl + F):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Trait Supplies
    Characters family
    AntiTraits SuppliesAdded
    Level Army_Fully_Supplied
    Description Army_Fully_Supplied_desc
    EffectsDescription Army_Fully_Supplied_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    Level Army_Supplies_75_Percent
    Description Army_Supplies_75_Percent_desc
    EffectsDescription Army_Supplies_75_Percent_effects_desc
    Threshold 2
    Level Army_Supplies_50_Percent
    Description Army_Supplies_50_Percent_desc
    EffectsDescription Army_Supplies_50_Percent_effects_desc
    Threshold 3

    Effect Unrest 1
    Level Army_Supplies_25_Percent
    Description Army_Supplies_25_Percent_desc
    EffectsDescription Army_Supplies_25_Percent_effects_desc
    Threshold 4
    Effect TroopMorale -3
    Effect Unrest 2
    Level Out_Of_Supplies
    Description Out_Of_Supplies_desc
    EffectsDescription Out_Of_Supplies_effects_desc
    Threshold 5
    Effect Command -2
    Effect TroopMorale -6
    Effect Unrest 3
    Effect MovementPoints -5
;unrest here represent when u enter a settlement you take more supplies from population
    ;------------------------------------------
    Trait SuppliesAdded

    AntiTraits Supplies
    Level Supplies_Added
    Description Supplies_Added_desc
    EffectsDescription Supplies_Added_effects_desc

    ;------------------------------------------

Then save the game. PM me if it doesn't work.

EDIT: do not do that, I just got to know that doing this should make the game crashing (thanks for Caesar Clivus and Byg). Sorry.

Supply traits are integral to SS now. I didn't specifically choose to include them in default (non-BGRIV) version of RR/RC, they were already there.

Now I realize it was my misunderstanding. So supply stuff has nothing to do with BGR. Thanx for clearing up.

Incorrect, supplies are in all versions of BGR from version 2 upwards and are just one feature of many. Version 4 is optional is the RRRC compilation, BGR2 is in by default and is the easiest BGR version currently available (giving a game about 5 times easier than BGRIV E).
I believe I already posted details somewhere in that thread for how to keep supplies static in BGR2 (a default state with no benefits or penalties) for anyone who can't handle it.

It would be great of you if you remember what thread was that.
