Default Fire Arrow - Turn into an inferno

Fire Arrow - Turn into an inferno
    Spoiler for Screenshot

    Introduction
"Fire Arrow - Turn into an inferno" is a modification for Mount&Blade 1.011 developed by rucchi. You can find more information, support and the download link in this sub-forum on the Taleworlds forum. This modification is definitely worth a look!

    Features
    • You can burn structures like ladders, siege towers and battlements by burning arrows and torches. Soldiers get burned by the flames if they stay on the battlements or siege tower. Some structures can even be destroyed
    • A minimap can be displayed while in battle, which shows you where you are as well as where your enemies are located and furthermore allows you to find your baggage (inventory) more easily, as a flag now shows you the location of your baggage chest. You can also view the number of enemies you dispatched and check on the health of your horse.
    • Altered villages and quests: The farms or cattle herds of villages are shown on the map. You only can do quests in which the village elder asks you to deliver grain to the village or to find them cows for their herd, if the respective farm or herd in that village is having problems and producing badly.
    • An overview map shows you where your vassals parties are located and allows you to give orders to them like "Attack this party" or "Besiege this castle"
    • Companions as vassals: You can form parties that are led by a companion of yours. You furthermore can give fiefs to your companions.
    • Lords as companions: After you took an enemy lord prisoner, you can recruit him and have him in your party as a companion. You can also tell him to form a party and use him as a vassal instead of a permanent companion.
    • Trading companions: The party of a companion can trade with villages and towns. They have a need for that too, as the parties of companions need food just like your party and have morale as well. You can give and take money and food from your companions, if you prefer to trade yourself or if they don't have enough themselves.
    • You can make new custom banners by combining a background pattern, different colours, charges, and flag types. Several shields and armours as well as banners will show your custom banner.
    • and much more...

"WE WILL SMITE THE INVADERS FROM OUR SKIES! Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again will we bow before them; never again endure their oppression; never again endure their tyranny. We will strike without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors' graves with their blood. And as our last breath tears at their lungs; as we rise again from the ruins of our cities...they will know: Helghan belongs to the Helghast." -Scholar Visari

One of the best mods out there. Period!

And it's important to mention: Fire Arrow is misleading since it's much more than 'just' burning buildings.
There are so many new great features that you need to try it out.

I love the minimap, companions party and the overview map.

Samesies. I'm searching for my 'perfect' mod, and I haven't quite found it. This one is worth a try as well. If only 1257 Edition had kingdom management... but this one (at first glance) seems semi-Nativish with kingdom management, which is basically what I'm searching for.

The 'Perfect' mod is PoP. It's amazing.

This mod is neither finished nor amazing. It's okay.
The 'fire arrow projectile' never goes away - It makes all arrows don't look like arrows.
    There are insane texture bugs.
The whole feel of it is just odd. I like the banner and the whole concept and idea - But it is FAR from finished.

That's too bad. I'll still take a look, but those types of things are what keep me from really enjoying a mod. PoP is too fantasy for me, unfortunately. That's why I've enjoyed Native and 1257 Edition the most; obviously it takes place in a fantasy world, but its still got a semi-European medieval flavor to it. Native Expansion is the closest I've gotten (turning off Dark Knights), but the prevalence of plate armor is something that bothers me. I also don't need dozens upon dozens of troop types... I think it just overcomplicates things, especially when you can only have 12 different troop types (or whatever the limit is) in your party. It makes stationing and transporting garrisons tedious, and that's even keeping to troops from a single faction. That's why I love 1257, but it lacks kingdom management. PoP is a great mod, that's for sure. But it's not my "perfect" mod. I think Hegemony will quickly take that position upon release.

    EDIT:

Looking at the pictures a little better, I have a feeling the super-saturated colors will be the things that turn me off initially. Man, I am WAY too picky lol

    EDIT EDIT:

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Nazgul. The fire arrows feel like a gimmick. Just made the game run slower for me, without adding real substance. The other features are nice (options to name kingdom, change faction color, etc.). Banner-making is very neat but very flawed; the colors are overly saturated and unnatural. I also very much dislike that pretty much every single piece of equipment is completely emblazoned with your banner colors; it made my troops look like Christmas elves. Of course I realize my critiques are probably limitations of the game system, but I still wasn't that impressed.

I'm starting to doubt this game actually HAS system limit, just look at Star Wars mod and PoP.

This is a mod that has MUCH promise to it, but the fire arrows simply screw up the game as they make all missile shots look like lasers instead of arrows.
The fire trail doesn't follow the arrow if you turn it on either.
The heraldic mails - I agree with you there. It's an exaggeration, it can look nice but it usually turns out to look like some Christmas tree fighting another Christmas tree with a bunch of Santas on horses running around.

The heraldic mails you can buy, however, are amazing. They really look good, but that pretty much sums all the improvements this game has brought up and it saddens me.
If we were to give this game another 6 months to develop, I bet it will be as good as PoP, or just slightly worse than PoP - But until then, it is below par. Don't worry - You're not too picky. It's supposed to be a brutal war game, not a ten-year-old's party.

If you press "R" (default setting) you set the arrow on fire. I don't know if you actually found that yet or not, but by shooting an arrow after pressing "R" you can set fire to structures, so the fire arrow is not just a re-textured version of the Native arrow. Due to limitations of the engine, there can unfortunately not be two different textures for a normal and for a fire arrow.

While I agree with you that the mod isn't finished yet, or that some features are bugged or that the heraldry on the armours is sometimes a bit over-the-top, I think the ability to burn structures like seen in the picture in the first thread is a neat work of modification-art. And as Adorno said, "There are so many new great features that you need to try it out." - the fire arrow isn't the only new addition of this modification. Yes, the mod has it's shortcomings, but it introduces some new or heavily altered aspects new to M&B and M&B mods, that should not be overlooked. It might not be a mod that makes you forget time yet, but it's fairly new.

I don't play the mod all this much either currently, as I prefer PoP as well, but I think it enriching to give it a try and see the new features, just to have seen them and to happily (or not - to each his own) await a more developed version.

I did turn on the fire arrow thingy, but the thing is - Once you do that, the fire-arrow-trail thingy, that looks like flames coming from it, goes far and wide while the arrow already hit the ground, the trail just keeps going and going and going, away from the arrow.

I will give it a try, yes, without a doubt I will play it further, but its those little things that aren't so little that make it somewhat annoying to play.

I still must give an honest congratulations and a pat on the back to the creators - This has clearly taken a lot of their time and most of the results show, it looks better (Mostly), it plays better and it's pretty cool.

Another problem I have with it - In tournaments, there's no horse HP nor fire arrows. The arrows look normal, so I doubt that the system doesn't allow two type of arrows, I'm guessing they just don't know how to make it do that.

Thank you for reporting that, I'll pass it on to the developer of the mod. Maybe it can help him making two different arrows - one that burns and one normal one.

No problem. I wish I could be more help in modding though... This mod has so much potential.

The name of this mod seriously needs rethought. It's the kind of name you give to a mini mod, not a major mod... and the main reason I didn't bother to look at it. Seems to have some nice features. How would I avoid having a Christmas tree for an army? Is there any black gear?

Yeah, the name doesn't do the mod and the potential it has justice. Regarding the black gear: The mod has black armour, but I think always with the heraldry on it. One could always just choose a completely black banner, but that might spoil some of the fun and look odd on armour that is not black itself.

Ah darn I love black gear, it makes me feel so cool...
