Over the coming days (what with the somewhat spectacular fail of my pet-project engineering system), I intend to carry out some improvements to the historical battles (amongst other things).
One of the things I would like to do is add the battle of Pharsalus to the historical battles section. I wrote a dissertation on Pharsalus in my youth, so it is somewhat close to my heart!
Anyway, what I was thinking was having Julius Caesar's army on the one side, deployed historically with the infantry "hidden" behind the cavalry, and the main line only 3 ranks deep. I then intend to have Pompey's (much larger) army lined up on the other side of the map, as well as a small, cavalry-only contingent commanded, of course, by Titus Labienus. This is in fact historical, as Pompey had approximately six times the amount of cavalry Caesar had at Pharsalus, and this was commanded by Labienus. Thus, (if one assumes that the player plays as GJC), one must fend off the vast amount of cavalry attacking one's right flank, and then destroy Pompey's huge army with whatever you have left. It should not be easy for the player (just as it was not easy for Caesar) but I will be interested to see the results.
Does anyone have any problems with this representation of Pharsalus? Speak now or forever hold your peace...
EDIT: Sorry, Ought to have said, Labienus is another, allied army to Pompey.
EDIT 2: Oh blast there's only one Roman faction now, isn't there? Free people, perhaps?
