    Default With Steam.

Hello, everyone. I use Steam, and I realise how to use -mod: switch on it, but it doesn't seem to work with this. I have used -mod:TIC, -mod:bi/TIC and using those combinations with spaces, and tried launching it through Vanilla or BI, but it doesn't work. It gets to the red screen with copyright stuff and everything, but then it CTDs, without any error message, even with -show err.

If you get the red screen (which is the default RTW loading screen) then clearly the switch has not worked.

Where have you put the switches? My understanding is that they need to be put somewhere inside Steam - but I don't use Steam for RTW so I am not sure where.

I have used the set launch options in the Steam interface, and the .exe, where you double click to load the game.

Nay, that is a different issue.
You need to put in -steamapp number, what ever it is, not the Rome Tw.exe when using a shortcut to launch it.
It presumes it is from a disk in that issue.

My question is pretty much the same as the poster's, I have rtw gold on steam, Iv'e downloaded and installed TIC and all patches and my final question is basically what do I put into the "target" and "Start in" boxes under the shortcut's properties? I've heard lots of answers and I haven't found one that works yet. Also, sorry if it's inconvenient, but could you please provide the full text line required for each of these boxes and not just the addon at the end becasue I've messed with it quite a bit and no longer have/remember what the original line was. Thanks a lot to anyone that can help me. Much Appreciated

p.s. this is my first post here...hello everyone and thanks for all the great work rtr team, I've been loving rtrpe

The below quote is from a mod called Norman Invasion. I changed the shortcut to reflect the one used in TIC. Let us know how you get on. And welcome to the forums!

If using STEAM then go to "My Games", right-click on the "Barbarian Invasion" item and select "Properties". Select "Set Launch Options" and in the box that comes up enter-show_err -mod:TIC You can then "Create a Desktop Shortcut" for the mod using those parametres.

Hi and thanks for the help and the welcome. Unfortunately, that didn't work, the TIC and regular RTW shortcuts still just take me to the regular rtw screen. By the way, I'm using vista 64 bit, if that's significant.

Do you know what the full line of code I should paste into my "Target" and "Start in" sections under the properties of my TIC shortcut is? Also, there is no Barbarian Invasion option in my "My Games" list, just RTW Gold.

Thanks again for all the help

I'm not sure what you are asking here. Steam is just one way to purchase RTW as a download.

I just saw this as I browsed in the forums, and I thought what my old thread was doing.
I cannot verify this, my internet connection is weak at the moment, and I may be incorrect, so if someone from the team could correct me, then please do.
Some mods, just as FATW, require you to put the folder in the BI folder.
I am not sure if this does, so please correct me.
Some mods like XGM w/ BI, don't require that. You only need to launch it fon BI.

    An example.

    Me launching FATW:
Downloading folder in C/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold/BI
Go onto Steam, right click the Rome Total War Gold shortcut, right click it, press properties, and put in: -mod:bi/ci.
Don't put ci on it, put whatever the folder is called. So if the folder you installed is called TIC, then put -mod:bi/tic

For XGM, I would install it into C/rogram Files/Steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold/rome total war gold.
I go onto the properties, set launch command, and put in -mod:XGM, and when I launch it, I don't want the vanilla version, I want to launch barbarian invasion.
Apologies if I confuse you, I can send you pictures in private if you still do not understand.
    Rest in peace, Calvin.

    @Hakomar
If you put the mod folder inside the BI folder then you do need -mod:BI/TIC. However, TIC should be created at the same level as the BI folder so the shortcut becomes -mod:TIC.

I am fairly sure the install instructions for RTR VII TIC state that the mod should be installed to the game folder (i.e. the folder where the exes are) and not the data or any other folder.

That was what I am aiming at.
Thanks for the correction, as I said I cannot currently verify the absolute truth of it.

No problems but I am not installing RTW through Steam just to be sure of how it's possible to run a mod with Steam. There are other posts around where people have managed to do so.
