    Default Kwarezmian Campaign advice

    Hello all!

I have just started my second campaign on SS 6.1 (h/h - Late Era) as the Kwarezmians and would like some advice on how to deal with the Mongols! As I assume happens every time due us already being at war (the only war in the world at the start?! lol ) the Mongols attacked my capital in the north on the first turn, 1 stack sieging me and 2 others on the way. My leader was inside with a decent stack, victory was perhaps possible with the other full stack to the south but it would have cost me dearly. Those armies could be better used expanding to the west, so I decided to destroy all the buildings and request peace in exchange for the settlment, its not particularly profitable or advanced so no huge loss. They accepted and my dude escaped south to safety. Then more of the horde appeared down the east and started marching across my territory (they would have destroyed me in a war..), so far (turn 4/5) they have not attcked! My worry is that their presence in my province will damage our relations to the point where they will attack me. Is it worth offering military access? Even if I have to pay? I is still early days obviously but I get the feeling how i deal with this will effect my game a lot!

Any help would would be appreciated, including any more general advice on how to play as the Kwarezmians! This is my first Mod btw and I'm loving all the improvements on vanilla!

    Cheers, Mat.

See if you can get them to agree to attack the Cumans. Then, after the majority of their armies have moved to attack sign a treaty with the Cumans to attack them from both sides and squeeze them out of the game early. I think that's easier to do in the late campaign, because they don't have as many full stacks as when they spawn in the early campaign.

    Good luck

Fortify the mountains and just put some stacks in them to stop them getting further than the southern Caspian and then just wait for them to go for the Cumans?

Well at first all their armies headed north to the cumans, without any request from me, but then after taking Bahgdad and some surrounding rebel settlements I called a Jihad on Acre, meaning to take jerusalem while my allies distracted the Knights. This is all going to plan, exept that the Mongols came back with 4 stacks, one of which was on my Jihad!! On their way past they attacked my King in my northernmost castle (crappy wooden thing still..). Survived the first attack but with half my army dead and 6 holes in my walls I couldnt fend them off again! All buildings destroyed so it wont be a danger for a while. The town north of the mountains is currently under seige but i should be able to keep that, only 1 stack attacking and I can easily reinforce!

Thanks for the advice, I should have known I'd have to fight them really haha

I'm really looking forward to pagan Mongols myself. They always join Jihads it's so dumb - but when I was playing as Sicily, the Almoravids called a Jihad on Toledo and the Kwarezmians and Fatimids turned up (and the Fatimids took it!). Then the Kwarezmian stack marched through the whole of southern Europe before I lost sight of it

The Kwarezmians have a very tough go of it in the Late Era campaign. One things for sure- You're very liable to lose a few settlements, especially with so little time to prepare yourself.

If you still want to play as the Kwarezmians and don't want want the challenge of the Late Era campaign, you could always play on the Early Era, although that lacks much of the excitement of the Late Era start.

From my experience (I have played a few Kwarezmian campaigns, I REALLY love this faction) Early Era is harder in some ways, because often at the time of the Mongol invasion, you are already fighting a multi front war with the Turks, Egypt and possibly the Cumans, and so all your armies are far away from Urgench when the come down from the steppes. I also think they get more stacks because they're an emergent faction (could be wrong about that though). In late era, there are some buffer provinces between you and the other factions, so you can concentrate on eliminating the Mongols before you have to deal with the others.

It is indeed a very fun capaign! Had some epic battles (Inc. a glorious realisation that forts are stone beasts The mongols are down to their last awesome stack + a whola bunch of leftovers. For about 6 turns now theres been a stand off on a bridge, they just wont attack me!?! They outnumber me about 3.1 so no way I can attack.. I've tried insulting them by demanding everything possible which worsened relations but still nothing! I would sail an army round and take their capital but moneys a little tight atm! I could fall back to my Castle (the one on the sea that starts as a town) but I do love a good bridge battle!

On the western front its going well but I've run out of land to conquer, I've taken Jerusalem and Acre, eliminating the Knights, so now its either venture off into europe or attack my allies (Egypt and Turks). I'm thinking go west because the trade I'd lose breaking an alliance would cripple me, + neither are weak! I'll head up north for the Cumans after the Mongols are dealt with!

Has anyone else ever had a King with "envies the heir" triats? seems bizzare, but then he was a disloyal lazy prick before his dad got killed!

I haven't tried an early campaign on SS yet, one of the things I liked the look of before I got it was that I could use decent units straight away!
