    Default CTD after battle

Hi, there. Great mod btw. I think I asked this question a long time ago, but even if i did, here it goes:

I just got done fighting a twenty minute battle against Carthage neare the city of Neapolis. I was hard pressed to win, but finally did with about 50 percent casualties. The Carthaginian army was completely destroyed. Once I click to continue back to the campaign map, I got a CTD. This happens frequently on this game, and I'm never sure if when I choose to fight a battle I'm going to get this.

Have you ever encountered this problem before? From what I Can tell my computer seems to have difficulty with the switchover, but only after a battle, not before it.

I am running Vista. I have a quad-core pentium with 8gb of ram. Graphics are integrated, but with 8gb to throw around that's not aproblem. I'm wondering if I should turn off anti-aliasing?

That's where you go, what is the government thinking? I mean wha, what do Congressmans' children eat -- MITES?!? All 400 dollars does is remind me how screwed I am; You'd be better off if you're Congressman just came to your door, and pissed on your foot."

Quad core? You doing military experiments?

Not sure. Your rig should run it fine.

Though I do not have any concrete proof, I have a suspiscion that the flaw is actually the MOD itself. Not to say that this degrades the quality of the MOD, it's a great experience.

Oddly enough, I did just have a CTD BEFORE the battle right before I came online now. That rarely, if ever, occurs. The CTD AFTER the battle seems to happen more often. As I said before, I am wary of deciding to command the battle myself for fear that my 20-30 minutes will be concluded in vain because of a CTD.

Please, does anybody know or suspect why this is happening? Is this question answered in the FAQs? I doubt this question I have asked is a novel one.

oh, and FYI: I am using the Barbarian Invasion Executable.

PS - no, not military experiments. I'm currently filiming Jurassic Park

OK, this is off the wall, but....

I had a similar problem with MTW a while ago, not sure I still haven't got it but I haven't played in a while because I pretty much always play RS now. I also had a weird problem with MTW2 and then RS with the start menus not being selectable which still happens so they may all be related.

The problem is that I have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, for some reason, even though they work in all other circumstances, they caused at least the RS problem if not all 3. I have another Microsoft wireless mouse that works just fine to select the menu items (for example if I start a new campaign, with the logitech I can't change the difficulty setting or faction etc).

As I said, it's bizarre and may not be the issue. I found it because it happens with Excel as well, the logitech one cannot select cell pull-downs which is a bit limiting! but with another mouse it is fine.

I guess the short version of all that is try another mouse and keyboard if you can

wow. oddly enough, I do have a logitech wireless mouse. I'll plug in another one and restart and see if that does the trick. That's a very interesting hypothesis.

You wouldn't happen to know why I can't select the tilde button in-game do you? For whatever reason, it doesn't work and that sux bc I want the FOW off.

Well it turns out that the logitech mouse wasn't the issue. I unplugged the adaptor and played with a corded mouse and it still crashed to desktop. This is a pretty big problem for me because it happens maybe 1 in every 3 times, or maybe even more. Now I've noticed sometimes it crashes before a battle, sometimes during a battle, and sometimes after a battle. Just whenever it wants to. I'm not sure if I should update the drivers, i think they're updated anyway.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Oh and BTW it seems that I never even have a chance to create the VE repub legions because by the time I get Tarentum, it takes maybe 20 turns before an Imperial palace is required, then poof! Every single city builds its own legion. Should I just conquer it faster?

I just had a thought: do you think it could be related to the fact that I have the game and the mod installed into the program files 86 folder? I am using vista 64-bit

What you should do is get a clean RTW install and don't do anything to it. It's best to launch the game once and make sure that you can fight battles OK - so you know it's a working copy. You can also set up your preferences the way you want them.

Simply copy the entire game folder to a new folder. Install the mod there.

If you need to remove the mod or install another mod then it's not necessary to uninstall/reinstall - if you want a new mod just take another copy of the clean working copy and apply the mod to it (if they are mod-foldered you can always use the first copy you made). With most modern PCs space isn't a problem. I personally keep each mod in their own copy of the install.

Hmmm...well, I will try it out. Should I try the battle in a campaign or should I go to instant battle?

Do both. At least with the custom battle you can make it a small one. The idea is to make sure that the 'clean' copy works OK as it will be used as a base for other mods. There is no point in not having a 'working' RTW in the first place. Clearly there has been some problem with your RTW in the past (unless it's your system).
